Spring/Summer 2020 Not just another VIEW FROM THE CURB THE CITY OF KALAMAZOO’S GUIDE TO WASTE & RECYCLING SOME RESIDENTIAL SERVICES ARE CURRENTLY IMPACTED BY COVID-19. SEE INFORMATION BELOW SPRING CLEAN-UP The City of Kalamazoo provides a Spring clean-up collection that will take place in April 2020. Residents will be permitted to place residual leaves from the fall, weeds, branches, twigs and other trimmings no longer than four feet in length and two inches in diameter in biodegradable bags, open cardboard boxes or bundled with binder twine at the curb for pick up. See page 5 for your scheduled pick up day. Loose piles of limbs, branches and trimmings will not be collected! No grass clippings, dirt, soil, rocks, stones, bricks, concrete, railroad ties or other landscaping material of any type will be collected. Violations will result in immediate corrective action and fees to the property owner of record. Please note: The regular brush program will resume in May. The program offers a variety of container sizes, with collections ranging from weekly to monthly depending on the volume of materials recycled. SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS Flushing SPRING 2020 – WATER SYSTEM FLUSHING SCHEDULE Spring Hydrant Flushing The 2020 Spring Hydrant Flushing Program will begin Sunday, April 19, 2020. Daytime flushing is from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and evening flushing from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Flushing does not affect the safety of the water supply. However, tap water may appear cloudy or discolored immediately after flushing. The City Public Services Department recommends residents run cold water in a utility sink or tub until it runs clear again. Free Firewood, Woodchips These materials will continue to be available to City residents, free of charge, throughout the spring and summer season, while supplies last.
