Busy times at Hopetoun CRC Page 16 - Community Spirit, Thursday September 26, 2019 ■ HOPETOUN CRC We’ve had a very busy few weeks running lots of workshops for our community and its visitors. Our Basic Sewing workshop was a colourful affair with bright tie dye and spotty PJ pants being made. Many thanks to Sonja Groenwald for running us through the lesson. We learnt about different types of fabric, how to read a pattern, how to prepare your pattern and fabric and of course how to sew! ■ New skills were learnt in the recent sewing workshop with Sonja Gorenwald. Precision was the key to getting the perfect fit with Sonja supporting us the whole way. Each participant took home a completed pair of pyjama pants as well as resources and new skills. If you are keen for us to run another sewing workshop, please get in touch. Len Metcalf, Sydney based photography teacher, inspired and educated us on all things photography when he came to Hopetoun to run a workshop earlier this month. Len travelled to Fitzgerald River National Park for the first time in September last year and vowed to return to explore our stunning Biosphere region. Len is an incredible teacher with many years of experience. Len’s Hopetoun workshop was a mixed group with varying levels of skill, quite different to his usual participants who are typically very experienced, qualified photographers and artists who travel from all over the world to attend his workshops. Len thoroughly enjoyed the weekend saying that he was delightfully kept on his toes. “It’s always lovely to know you are inspiring individuality and HOUSES/UNITS creativity rather than a set way of thinking or being…. That’s one of the special things I get to do. Individuality through self expression. The world needs more of it. More self love. More love of Mother Nature too.” FOR LEASE Several of the participants had attended other photography workshops in the past and said that Len teaches at another level. He not only tells you about how to use your camera but teaches you how to embrace the art of photography. It was a In these towns:- truly inspiring experience. It was a full house for the Intro to Backyard Beekeeping Katanning workshop with attendees being shown an informative slide show before getting up close and personal with some bee Gnowangerup keeping equipment, including a flow hive. Busy times at Hopetoun CRC Community Spirit, Thursday September 26, 2019 - Page 17 of knowledge and his time with the group was greatly appreciated. Bees are crucial for our environment as they perform approximately 80% of pollination worldwide. Beekeeping if a fun and rewarding hobby with the occasional reward of some delicious honey. Our Wildflower Paper Making Workshop was lots of messy fun. Following on from our previous papermaking workshop held in July, we modified this one to fit in with the Spring Festival and infused our paper with wildflowers. Like any art, things don’t always turn out exactly how you expect and nothing is different when it comes to the art of making paper. We had a great time playing around with colours and textures which resulted in some incredibly beautiful pieces of paper to take home. If you would like us to run another paper making workshop or any other sort of workshop for that matter, please get in contact with us at Hopetoun CRC on 9838 3062 or email hopetoun@crc.net.au ■ Lots of messy fun was had at the Wildflower Paper Making Workshop.
