In a publisher’s letter posted on Group Dentistry Now, CEO Bill Neumann, who attended Dentalpalooza, said that the “Massachusetts Dental Society reimagined what a dental meeting can be, and going forward, every organizer should do the same.” (See https://www.groupdentistrynow.com/dso-group- blog/dentalpalooza-recap-and-the-future-of-dental-and-dso-events/.) The MDS is always proud to bring together volunteers, exhibitors, clinicians, researchers, and dental teams to collaborate, learn, and grow, and Dentalpalooza continued that tradition. Reduce Friction in the Patient Experience by Delivering the “3 Cs” By CareCredit, MDS Member Savings Program Partner When your patient’s experience is convenient and comfortable, they may have more confidence to accept recommended care. Enhancing the patient experience, and as a result increasing production, can be as easy as the “3 Cs”: confidence, convenience, and comfort. • Confidence used to be built through face-to-face interaction. Today, it has expanded online. For example, through your social media sites you can literally show patients the type of dentistry you do and the patients who have benefited from your care. • Convenience means enabling your patients to engage with you when and how they want to. To help, Care- Credit developed technology—the Custom Link—that enables patients to learn about and apply for the Care- Credit credit card and pay* their bills anytime, anywhere, using their smart device or home computer. To learn more about the Custom Link, go to carecredit.com/mycustomlink. • Comfort can be defined as alleviating distress. Fear continues to be a barrier to care and is one reason patients find it difficult to visit a dentist for an examination, let alone move forward with recommended treatment. There are third-party platforms that can work with your practice management software to educate patients on the benefits of care, your safety protocols, and the advances in dentistry that help calm fears. *Subject to credit approval This content is subject to change without notice and offered for informational use only. Practice Management: COVID-19 The CDC Revises Infection Control Guidance on Aerosol-Generating Procedures The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revised its infection control guidance for dental offices. The updated guidance removes the recommendation that dental health care professionals avoid aerosol- generating procedures for all patients. The CDC now advises that these procedures be avoided only for patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. Further, the CDC states that if aerosol-generating procedures cannot be avoided for any patients who may have COVID-19, that an airborne infection isolation room should be used, if possible, and treatment rendered only by essential personnel wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Please note that the CDC guidance on disinfection protocols and universal precautions for all patients remains unchanged. Practice Management Q&A Question: Do Patients and Providers Still Need to Wear Masks? Yes. While the Commonwealth’s face-covering order was rescinded by Governor Baker on May 29, 2021, the Answer: Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) issued a new face-covering advisory consistent with the CDC’s updated guidance. Face coverings are still mandatory for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individ- uals at all times in health care facilities and provider offices, defined as health care facilities or providers licensed or operated by the Commonwealth, including nursing homes, rest homes, emergency medical services, hospitals, doctors’ offices, urgent care settings, community health centers, vaccination sites, behavioral health clinics, and Bureau of Sub- stance and Addiction Services facilities. This requirement applies to both patients and staff. Learn more at mass.gov/doc/phase- 4-reopening-guidance-massachusetts-department-of-public-health-guidance-reopen-approach-for-health-care-providers. Note: The CDC released new guidance on July 27 recommending that fully vaccinated people wear a mask in public indoor settings if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission (see cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated-guidance. html). On July 30, the DPH issued an updated mask advisory for residents, however the mask requirements for providers and patients remain the same. Bank of America Startup Financing 1 Starting a practice in 2021 Since 1996, Bank of America Practice Solutions has helped dentists across the nation reach their goals through smart financial solutions and helpful guidance. Whether dentists are starting a practice or expanding to new horizons, customized financial products are available to help turn their dreams into reality. Starting a practice is one of the greatest accomplishments in a dentist’s career, but it can also be one of the most challenging. As with any new business, these challenges come early, particularly with securing a loan, staffing and building a strong marketing plan to fill the operatories. Conquering these obstacles becomes far more manageable with an experienced lender. The unique Start-up financing offered by Bank of America is an all-inclusive package, including: • Flexible rates and flexible terms • Optional rate lock to protect against interest rate changes • Interest-only and graduated payment options to give ample time to grow without cash flow restrictions As a national lender, Bank of America not only offers a strong lending solution for new startup practices but also complements the loan with turn-key business solutions such as merchant services, easy check deposits, business checking and online banking. Working with a lender that offers a full suite of products to help fulfill a dentist’s banking needs from top to bottom can be helpful when transitioning to practice ownership. Bank of America focuses on three phases of starting a new practice: Phase one is obtaining loan approval with the ability to lock in the borrower’s interest rate for up to 4 months, while finalizing leasehold or real estate space. Phase two happens post lease signing, during the construction period. During this time, borrowers can make payments daily to vendors for construction, equipment, and marketing for up to 10-months of the project period, guarding against any potential construction delays. Phase three occurs once the practice opens for business. New practice owners benefit from Bank of America’s complimentary Practice Heartbeat® program,2 to help you develop the management, analytic and competitive skills crucial to practice ownership.
