A LeԽer from the Pastor Dear Parish Family of Our Lady at St. Germaine, It is through our mothers that we come to know and experience the peace and love of God. Their love is all giving, unconditional, and self-sacrificing. Our mother’s love brings true rejoicing, and happiness to our hearts. Each of our mothers with their own unique gifts and talents blesses not only their families, but all the earth with a love that is real, genuine, and practical. But, it is also a life giving love that forms and molds us into children of God. Mother’s Day Blessing Loving God, as our mothers give life and nourishment to us their children, so watch over all our mothers nourishing them with your life and love. Bless them that they may be strengthened in your joy, peace, and love. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth from their hearts. Grant that we their children may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect and love them as they love us. Sincerely, Fr. Tom Cabala A PRAYER AS I PUT ON MY MASK As I prepare to go into the world, help me to see The sacrament of wearing this cloth – Let it be “an outward sign of an inward grace” – A tangible and visible way of living Love for my neighbors, as I love myself. Christ, since my lips will be covered, Uncover my heart, That people would see me smile in the crinkles around my eyes. Since my voice may be muffled, Help me to speak clearly, Not only with my words, but with my actions. Holy Spirit, As the elastic touches my ears, remind me to listen careful- ly – And full of care – to all those I meet. May this simple piece of cloth Be shield and banner, And each breath that it holds, Be filled with your love. In your name and in the name of love I pray. -Amen. -Author Unknown We want to thank the Covid Team for their untiring, selfless dedication to our parish this past year. Your caring efforts in keeping our church safe and open have made you an extended family to us all.

Catholic Charities HELP THE HUNGRY AND HOMELESS A hungry child. A homeless mother. An addict. An immi- grant. A frail senior. An impoverished veteran. Catholic Charities protects and serves all these people and many more. In the South and Southwest area, each week 200 families receive their basic food supply from the St. Blasé Food Pantry and an additional 162 are served through the food pantry at St. Irenaeus. 80 otherwise homeless families are housed in the New Hope Apart- ments and other transitional housing intended to get families to become independ- ent throughout the year. 141 units of permanent housing are provided for impov- erished veterans, men and women who have served our country. The hot meal program which served more than 7,500 meals to the hungry and the homeless in the South and Southwest area is now a carryout program. Many of those served are our neighbors. In addition to those served above, 70 families or 222 individu- als from Oak Lawn and the surrounding areas have received direct emergency as- sistance. The Mother’s Day Collection for Catholic Charities is on the weekend of May 8- 9. Those of you who get Church donation envelopes in the mail will find a special envelope for Catholic Charities. Those who don’t can use any envelope and either mail it to the Parish Center (9711 S. Kolin), drop it off at Church in one of the col- lection baskets or drop it off in the Parish Center mailbox. There are blank beige envelopes at the Church entrance for your use for Catholic Charities as well. Please help fight hunger and homelessness in the Southwest area by donating to the Catholic Charities Mother’s Day Collection. Thank you! On May 3rd Jen Stazak had her surgery. The doctors were successful with removing the visible tumor. She is resting comfortably and on the road to recovery. Thank you for your continued support, love and prayers!
