In Memory of Jocelyn Dickson 1936-2020 “The Sayre School Horse Show Committee is dedicating this year’s show to Jocelyn Dickson, a lady who made the show happen for many years. Jocelyn was the one who called monthly meetings to map out the important things that were needed to be done to ensure the Horse Show was a success. There was a group of us that helped her, but she always kept us on task. So, here’s to Jocelyn for making the Sayre School Horse the best in Show in town.” ~Sayre Combs ’67

Perpetual Trophies The Leslie Bower Memorial Trophy is dedicated to the memory of Leslie Bower, Sayre Class of 1968. The first president of the Sayre Equestrian club and enthusiastic organizer of over six Sayre Horse Shows, Leslie would have enjoyed personally awarding this perpetual trophy to the lowest scoring Junior riding in a Novice Division of the Combined Test. This award now consists of a $50 cash prize. The Sydney Sayre Combs Memorial Award is in memory of one of the best riders in the Sayre Family. When Sydney Combs (1917- 2004) was five-years-old, he began riding along with this mother, Mary Sayre Williams Combs, at the Iroquois Hunt. By the time he was ten-years-old, he received his hunt buttons. While at Princeton University, he played polo and became the captain of the Princeton Polo Team. His mother attended Sayre School. His two daughters graduated from Sayre and his three grandchildren have all attended Sayre. The award, which consists of a $200 cash prize, is presented to the lowest scoring Senior riding in a Novice Division of the Combined Test. A special thank you to Sayre ’67 and Susan Combs for sponsoring this award each year. The Sayre School Challenge Trophy was first presented in 1965 to Laura McKinney ’66 and again to Ellen Givens ’72 in 1971. The trophy rested for twenty years until it was polished and presented to Lindsay Koffler, McClure Kelly ’96, and George Dickson ’94, and Marcum McLean ’21 in 2016. This trophy is presented to two Sayre Middle or Upper School students, one with the lowest combined test score and one with the highest dressage score. The Sayre Lower School Challenge Trophy will also be presented. The same score qualifications apply; however, the student must be currently enrolled in the Sayre Lower School. The Kelly Fleckinstein Award for Sportsmanship This award is dedicated to the memory of Kelly Fleckinstein, who worked as the Assistant to the Head of School and as a volunteer for the Horse Show for 40 years. Her dedication ensured the Horse Show's success. This award is presented to the individual whose sportsmanship reflects the qualities for which Kelly was admired: propriety, respect for others, graciousness in winning or losing, and service to the community. Award presented around 2:30 p.m.

What is Bodywork for horses? We primarily use myofascial release and deep tissue techniques, choosing methods appropriate to each individual case. This enables us to alleviate muscle tension and soreness, as well as releasing fascial pulls throughout the body. We average 1.5 – 2 hours per horse with bodywork, and our goal is always to improve the horse’s ability to perform its job well and to enhance its mobility. Equi-librium’s work with my older Hanoverian dressage horse has been nothing short of remarkable! I have used many alternative methods over the years and Equi-librium’s work produces the best results of any method by far. I highly recommend them! Why would I consider Bodywork or PEMF? Paul Boland Certified Rider Biomechanics Coach • Helps athletes (of any level) prepare for and recover from strenuous workouts • Relaxes and softens injured, tired, and overused muscles What is PEMF? • Reduces muscle spasms and cramping • Relieves tension PEMF is Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field therapy. This • Lengthens connective tissue and breaks technology uses an electrically charged magnetic field down/prevents adhesions to stimulate the cell structure. Using coils placed on • Increases flexibility your horse the electromagnetic field penetrates up • Enhances muscle tone and increases to eighteen inches from the skin into your horse. This range of motion depth of the electromagnetic field allows deep tissue penetration and promotes circulation.
