Collingwood celebrated Canada’s 150th with a SHIPYARDS AMPHITHEATRE community mural project comprised of 150+ pieces cut by students of Collingwood Collegiate Institute and painted by community members and visitors at various events throughout the year. The multi- coloured and shaped pieces celebrate the diversity of Canada’s regions and cultures. Pictured with the mural mounted at the waterfront promenade, is project designer Shane Durnford. The Shipyards Amphitheatre, located at the north end of Maple Street, is a picturesque venue complete with natural stone seating for 200+ and a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor theatre, musical performances, poetry readings, etc. The venue is equipped with a performance stage and ample electricity and is easily reached by road, water, or trail. The 2018 Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018. This election includes the election of Collingwood Council including the position of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and seven Councillors, as well as school board trustees. NEW for 2018 - Internet & Telephone Voting The Municipal Elections Act (MEA) is the legislation which governs the operation and administration of the municipal elections. The MEA has been updated with a number of changes, including key dates. In the 2018 Municipal Election, Collingwood voters along with its neighbouring municipalities will cast their ballot using the Internet or Telephone. These methods provide flexibility which allows for a longer voting period than traditional voting. It is also more convenient, more accessible, and better enables electors to exercise their right to vote. Results will be available sooner than the previous vote by mail voting system, with complete accuracy. Important Dates: Nomination Period: Tuesday May 1, 2018 - July 27, 2018 This is the period where prospective candidates can file nomination papers to run for office. Until a candidate files nomination papers, no campaigning can take place. Each candidate is required to submit 25 supporting signatures from eligible voters with their nomination paper. Voters’ List: Launch February 15, 2018 MPAC will be providing an on-line tool called Voter Lookup that allows voters to confirm that they are on the voters’ list and that their information is accurate. It will also allow voters to correct or add their names to the list. For more information, please visit VoterLookup.ca. Election Day: Monday, October 22, 2018 Voters will be able to cast a ballot via the Internet or telephone during the election period begins until October 22 at 8:00 p.m., EST.
