Support actions to REMESA for FMD Workshops and Training Bilateral action program of French ministry of agriculture: Welcome trainees Training in countries by experts Actions supported by EuFMD Organization of workshop at Maisons-Alfort Participation to real time training
Support actions to Tunisia for FMD Collaboration project between IRVT, OIE RL Brescia and Anses IRVT IZSLER Genetic and antigenic characterization of FMDV strains circulating in Tunisia Funded by: French Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Agency for the development of international cooperation in the areas of agriculture, food and rural space (Adecia) Instituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell'Emilia Romagna (IZSLER)
Context FMD was introduced in Tunisia in April 2014 First case was reported in North East of country 29/4/2014 13/10/2014 Then, different outbreaks were reported in different region and in a short time Virus identified : serotype O of WRLFMD topotype Ind-2001d
Objective Investigation of FMDV evolution during the outbreak Use of genome sequence and antigenic profiling data to study: dynamic of FMDV transmission the virus matching with vaccine strains Identify risk factors for the spread of the disease in the country
Planned activities Action Month IRVT will send samples to Anses 1 Welcome trainee from IRVT at Anses for 3 weeks 2 Analysis of samples by trainee : virus isolation, RT- 2 et 3 PCR, typing Genome amplification of selected samples at Anses 4 et 5 Send isolats and amplicons to IZSLER 5 Full genome sequencing from amplicons by IZSLER 6à9 Antigen profiling of isolats by IZSLER 6à9 Data analysis 10-11 Repport 12
Output Complete sequences of isolates of FMDV in Tunisia Phylogenetic analysis of sequences Antigenic characterization of isolates Analysis of epidemiological links between isolates based on phylogenetic analyzes Analysis of antigenic homology between the vaccine strains and isolates
Conclusion Global control of FMD needs coordinated action at national, regional and international level Collaborations between veterinary services and laboratories at regional and international levels are essential for the success of the control of FMD Anses participates and will continue to participate actively in the global fight against FMD In particular Anses-Animal health Lab, continues to provide support to REMESA members through training, expertise and collaboration project Collaboration projects such as that between IRVT, IZSLER and Anses should be encouraged

New diagnostic tools Improve the existing tests
Multiplex RT-PCR in one step for West Africa advantages: Detection and typing of four serotypes in one reaction Internal amplification control Cost
Duplex RT-PCR in one step. advantages: Simple (faster) Less handling Less risk of contamination sensitive IRES/β-actine Internal amplification control Or Stability Mastermix 3D/β-actine 20µl 5µl
Alternative way for sample sendings Inactivated virus Pen-Side test advantages: Less risk Shipping Costs Extraction ARN RT-PCR Transfection Virus
Research project Ensemble pour mieux comprendre Identification and characterization of circulating strains in West Africa
