Transport Collection & Delivery Drivers Sign-in and Site Orientation Requirements The requirements for collection and delivery vehicle drivers are slightly different to those of other contractors due to the type of work they do and the limited access they have to the stores or sites. Sign-In Collection and delivery drivers are only required to sign in if they are entering the shop floor of the Coles Group Site. Site Safety Practices On arrival drivers must ensure they understand the site specific safety procedure they must follow to prevent unexpected vehicle drive-off or movement during loading or unloading. This is in addition to their safety responsibilities as the person in charge of the vehicle. Contractor General Safety Induction Delivery truck drivers are required to complete this Contractor General Safety Induction and have a completed Safe Work Method Statement.
Transport Collection & Delivery Drivers Traffic Management – All vehicles • Traffic management requirements must be observed at all times • Vehicles are only to be parked in loading dock bays when collecting goods • Only one delivery is to be processed at a time • If there is another vehicle at the loading dock, do not enter and wait until the other vehicle leaves • Designated walkways must be used to prevent contact with mobile plant such as forklifts and other vehicles • Some sites such as the Distribution Centres require mobile phones to be turned off whilst on site • All speed limits, traffic flows and other specific traffic management rules must be observed • Vehicles are to be immobilised prior to loading or unloading • Instructions of Coles Group team members are to complied with at all times • Drivers must supply any personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the task being completed. • PPE must comply with the relevant Australian Standard and maintained in good condition. • Fully enclosed footwear is to be worn at all times. • Ensure high visibility Safety Vests are worn as the outer garment that is visible
Transport Collection & Delivery Drivers Traffic Management – Only application to vehicles over 4.5 tonnes Fatigue Management • Contractor drivers must have in place systems and work practices to ensure, as a minimum, compliance with relevant fatigue and driving hours regulations Load Restraints • Contractor drivers are to ensure load restrains are compliant with performance standard in the ‘National Load Restraint Guide’ prior to each vehicle trip. Vehicle Mass and Dimensions • Contractor drivers are to ensure they have a system in place that enables them to assess the dimensions and mass of the vehicle for each trip.

Hazards, SWMS and Incidents Identification and Reporting What is a Hazard? A hazard is a physical situation, work practice or procedure with the potential to cause harm in terms of: • Injury or illness; • Damage to the environment; and/or • Damage to property. Reporting and Management of Hazards When on a Coles Group site, you must: • Report all hazards, including changes in work that may affect safety or safe practices to a Coles Group representative • Provide adequate control measures for all hazards identified.
Hazards, SWMS and Incidents Safe Work Method Statements A safe work method statement (SWMS) is a document that describes the job to be completed, the steps involved and identified associated hazards. It details risk control measures to be implemented to eliminate or reduce risk and is required for all works. Contractors (including transport contractors), must have a copy of a SWMS to demonstrate how they will undertake work safely and control hazards. In addition you must have an understanding of the controls and be able to demonstrate implementation of the controls. If the work is considered routine the same work method statement is sufficient until conditions or their processes change. You can use your own SWMS or Job Safety Analysis (JSA) as relevant to your business.
Hazards, SWMS and Incidents Incident Reporting and Management What is an Incident? An incident is any unplanned event resulting in, or having a potential for injury, illness, death, damage or other loss. Incidents include ‘near misses.’ A near miss is an incident that does not result in personal injury but has the potential to cause injury and/or property damage. Reporting of Incidents All incidents (including near misses) must be reported immediately to your supervisor and Coles Group site representative as soon as practical. Contractors are required investigate any incident they are involved in and to co-operate in Coles incident investigations as requested. First Aid In the event of an injury requiring first aid treatment, the site will carry basic first aid supplies. Contractors should also carry their own first aid provisions.
Working Safely
Working Safely at Coles While at a Coles Group Site When entering or working on a Coles Group Site you must: • Observe speed limits when driving • Park vehicles in designated areas • Report to the Site Manager or their delegate • Carry identification with you • Carry a valid driver’s licence appropriate for the vehicle you are operating • Do not smoke on the Coles Group site • Comply with site personal protective equipment requirements Where required • Sign in and out on entering or leaving all Cole Group sites (where required) • Undertake a site specific orientation
Working Safely at Coles Site Security & Emergency Evacuation Site Security The following must be considered when working on Coles Group sites: • Security cameras are installed. Site Management review this footage. • Only enter designated work areas. Entry into other sections of the building is not acceptable. • Coles Group property is protected. Unauthorised use or removal of Coles Group property, including intellectual property such as documentation is forbidden. • Inspections may occur. Bags and toolboxes may be inspected upon leaving the premises. Emergency Evacuation Be familiar with: • The emergency procedures • The location of the emergency exits and assembly pointes the emergency sounds and codes In an emergency evacuation, ensure you • Keep emergency exits clear • Follow wardens’ instructions • Report to the assembly area • Evacuate and contact emergency services if working out of hours.
