PRESENTATION, MISSION, VISION, VALUES, OBJECTIVES The airport is located in Cluj-Napoca, the largest urban center of Transylvania (over 320,000 inhabitants) and placed geographically, economically, historically and culturally, in the heart of this historic region with 7 millions of inhabitants. The airport is situated on the E576 road, about 10 km east of the Cluj-Napoca city center and 12 km from the railway station. The size and the location make it the main airport in Transylvania (north-western Romania). The destinations offered by the Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport to passengers are varied, given fact that there are up to 45 domestic and international Leading Authority: Cluj County Council destinations to 21 countries of destination in Europe and the Middle East, operated Institution: Cluj Avram Iancu by Tarom, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, Lot Polish Airlines, Blue Air, Turkish Airlines and International Airport Aegean Airlines. To all these destinations is added series of holiday destinations operated by: Aegean Airlines, Air Bucharest, AtlasGlobal, Blue Air, Corendon Airlines, Ellinair, Freebird Airlines, Fly Egypt, Tarom and Nouvelair. Therefore, charter flights on 2018 are as follow: Rhodes, Heraklion, Corfu, Zakynthos, Thessaloniki, Chania, Skiathos (Greece), Antalya (Turkey), Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and Monastir (Tunisia). Cluj County has approximately 700.000 inhabitants. From this point of view, Cluj-Napoca airport can be compared with the airports from European cities such as Geneva and Stuttgart that annually registers 12 and 9 million passengers. Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport R.A. is part of the modern regional airports in Europe, being the second largest airport in Romania in terms of passenger traffic and the first regional airport of the country. It is also the first airport in the category of subordinated to the County Councils from Romania. Within a range of 170 km around the city, live about 3 million potential passengers whose service is a fundamental concern for Cluj airport. For the first time in the history of Cluj airport, in 2010 it was registered the passenger heaving the number 1,000.000. In 2011, Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport reached once again the number of 1,000,000 passengers, consecutively. In 2012 there was a decrease in the airport traffic, due to the economic crisis, the bankruptcy ofthe airline industry and the competition with the neighboring airports. In these circumstances we achieved a 24% traffic increase comparing with 2008, the beginning year of the economic crisis. 2013 meant for Cluj Airport an increase of 11% ofthe total number of passengers, comparing with 2012, exceeding the number of 1,000,000 passengers by the end of 2013. Continuing the positive trend of increasing the number of passengers who choose to fly from Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport, in 2014 the threshold 2
was reached 1,000,000 passengers since November. The new destinations and the continuous concern for high quality services have created premises for an increase of 14% in passenger traffic in 2014, comparing with 2013 when there were registered 1.18 million. In 2016, Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport exceeded 1 million passengers registered during the entire year, celebrating passenger with the number 1 million in August, due to the strategy of development of infrastructure airport and due to extension of route network, reaching about the number of 1,880,319 passengers registered until the end of the year. On september 21, 2017, Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrated passenger with the number 2 million for the first time. Therefore, in 2017, total traffic reached the number of 2,688,731 passengers. Mission: Strengthening its position as one of the most important airports in the Eastern Europe, providing air links worldwide through safe and quality services. Vision: To become the most important regional airport in the country, with high standard services for airlines, passengers and other users of our services. Values: 3
Main objectives: 1. To increase passengers and cargo traffic; 2. Attracting airlines for operating new destinations, increasing operating frequencies by granting marketing support in accordance with the national and European air transport market; 3. Improving the quality of airport services provided to airlines; 4. Increasing airport passengers and customers satisfaction; 5. Infrastructure modernization and development; 6. Developing and strengthening the coordinator role of R.A. Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport premises in accordance with national and international regulations and standards in civil aviation; 7. Developing cooperation with national and international air transport organizations: ICAO, IATA, ACI Europe, ROMATSA, MTI, AACR, Romania Airports Association and other institutions, organizations and associations in airport activity. 4
SHORT HISTORY December 15, 1917 The County Council of Cluj gave a land in Someseni district in order to develop an airport, according to the official document No. 447238/1917, issued by the Royal Hungarian Ministry of Defense, under the law. LXVIII, 1912, Art. 19. June 8, 1931 On the Someseni airfield land 36 airplanes, having on board the competitors for the “International Aviation Rally”, representing almost the entire Continental Europe. With this occasion, the local officials together with the Romanian Royal Air Club organize an air show. April 1, 1932 The Civil Airport of Cluj is established. The first fly from the Cluj Airport is done with a “Farman- Goliath” airplane, having two engines and a capacity of 10 seats, built by the Farman Aviation Works, on route Cluj – Bucharest. 1933 May 1 - The route Bucharest - Cluj is open, line served by L.A.R.E.S (Romanian State Airlines) with Junkers 13 planes, having a capacity of 5 seats. September 11 - Cluj Airport was declared International Customs Airport by opening the first international line Prague-Bucharest-Cluj. 1937 It starts the construction of the new building of Cluj Airport. 1939 The new airport Cluj-Someseni becomes operational. 1960- 1965 During this period the Cluj Airport suffers many updates, regarding the runway 1,850m x 45m, the taxi-way, the facilities and equipment specific for radio navigation. 1970 It takes place the inauguration of the new building of Cluj Airport; therefore, the airport becomes operational and equipped with all capabilities requested, in order to assure a full and safety functionality of flights. 1970-1995 During this period there are operating only internal flights. September 17, 1996 The Cluj Airport becomes an international one, through the opening of the Check Point for border and establishing of custom unit “Cluj-Napoca Airport” for the passengers and cargo international traffic. 1997 15 Mai – The Autonomous Régie Cluj-Napoca Airport is designated member of ACI Europe (The International Council of Airports. Europe Region); 4 August - Due to the Romanian Government Decision No 98/1997, regarding the passing of autonomous airport being under the Ministry of Transportation under the authority of the County Councils, the Cluj-Napoca International Airport passes under the Cluj County Council. 1998 - 2000 During this period there are operationally regular flights to new destinations and there are attracted new airlines; 30 Mai 2000 - The Cluj-Napoca Airport becomes founder member of the Romania Airports Associations. December, 2002 It is registered, for the first time, the passenger having number 100,000; this fact means a significant increase, comparing with 1998, when there were registered 52,599 passengers. April, 2004 It starts regular flights only for Cargo and Poste transport, operated by TNT Company; this fact opened new opportunities for the regional companies, concerning their presence on the global markets. Octomber 30, 2006 The first low-cost flights operated by BLUE AIR start from Cluj International Airport. 5
May 22, 2008 Inauguration of the arrivals terminal with a total area of 10.812 square meters and a processing capacity of 2 million passengers per year. May 15, 2009 Inauguration of the departures terminal with a total area of 16.150 square meters and a processing capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year. November 12, 2009 Inauguration of connecting building between the two terminals Arrivals/ Departures Passengers. December 20, 2010 The passenger with the number 1 million (within a calendar year) is first registered at the Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport. September 8, 2011 It begins the work for a new runway at the Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport, having 3,500 meters; Stage I (2,100). The new runway will have 45 meters width, up to 60 meters with shoulders. April 1, 2012 Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrates 80 years of civil aviation. Octomber 26, 2013 Inauguration of the new landing runway, stage I (2100m). 2015 February, 5 – ACI EUROPE set the Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport in the Europeanairports top, having the most significant increase of passengers’ number in 2015; September, 10 - The Cluj International Airport celebrated the 1,000,000 milion passengers, for the fifth year in the history of the airport. August 10, 2016 Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrated 1 million passenger number, a month earlier than 2015. April 1, 2017 Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrated 85 years since the Cluj Civil Airport was established. June 21, 2017 - Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrated 100 years since the first aviation activity on the Someseni airfield, but also 85 years since Cluj on the current location of the Civil Airport, in 1932. - Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrated 1 million passenger number, with three months earlier than 2016. September 21, 2017 Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport celebrated 2 million passenger number for the first time in the history of Cluj Airport. October 16, 2017 A new apron platform 2 aircraft has become operational, with a total area of more than 20,000 meters square and provides 3 C station aircraft (Airbus A321/ Boeing B738). 6

TRAFFIC EVOLUTION From 1996 until 2017, Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport registered high growth rates of passenger air traffic. This increase was determined by an effective and efficient management, by the adoption of marketing strategies that generated the development of air traffic and attracted new air operators on Cluj market (Tarom, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, Vueling, Lot Polish Airlines, Blue Air, Turkish Airlines, Aegean Airlines). Also, at the Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport we have three airlines that operate international cargo transport: Silver Air and Swift Air.
