                         Service of the Word

P Our help is in the name of the Lord,
C who made heaven and earth.
P If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?
C But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared.
P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, and call upon Him in prayer and
praise, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and
one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we
cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let
us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking
His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
C Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to
  everlasting life. Amen.
P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His
sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ,
and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the
Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen.

                           Service of the Word

Introit Psalm 36:5–9; antiphon: Song of Solomon 2:4
L [The Lord] brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over
           me was love.
C Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness
          to the clouds.
L Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the
great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD.
C How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind
take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
L They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from
          the river of your delights.
C For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

                                           3
ALL: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

L [The Lord] brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over
         me was love.

Salutation and Collect of the Day
P The Lord be with you.
 C And also with you.
 P Let us pray.
Almighty and everlasting God, who governs all things in heaven and on
earth, mercifully hear the prayers of Your people and grant us Your peace
through all our days; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives
and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
 C Amen.

Scripture Readings
R The Old Testament reading for the Second Sunday after Epiphany is from
the 62nd chapter of Isaiah. Isaiah 62:1–5
 1
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be
quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a
burning torch. 2The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your
glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will
give. 3You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD, and a royal
diadem in the hand of your God. 4You shall no more be termed Forsaken,
and your land shall no more be termed Desolate, but you shall be called My
Delight Is in Her, and your land Married; for the LORD delights in you,
and your land shall be married. 5For as a young man marries a young woman,
so shall your sons marry you, and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
so shall your God rejoice over you.
A This is the Word of the Lord.
C Thanks be to God.

                                           4
R The Epistle lesson is from the 12th chapter of 1 Corinthians.
1 Corinthians 12:1–11
         1
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be
uninformed. 2You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to
mute idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I want you to understand that no
one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can
say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.
         4
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are
varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but
it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7To each is given the
manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8To one is given through the
Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge
according to the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another
gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to
another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to
another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11All
these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one
 individually as he wills.
A This is the Word of the Lord.
C Thanks be to God.

Holy Gospel John 2:1–11
P The Holy Gospel according to St. John the 2nd chapter.
C Glory to You, O Lord.
        1
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the
mother of Jesus was there. 2Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his
disciples. 3When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have
no wine.” 4And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me?
My hour has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he
tells you.” 6Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of
purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants,
“Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he said to
them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took
it. 9When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did
not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water
                                             5
knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10and said to him,
“Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then
the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11This, the first of
his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his
disciples believed in him.
P This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C Praise to You, O Christ.

Apostles' Creed
C I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the
Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third
day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at
the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion
of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life T everlasting. Amen.

I WOULD LIKE to take a minute to make everyone aware of a wonderful mental
health resource that The Lutheran Foundation is making available to the
community. These past two years have taken a toll on all of us and
sometimes we just need someone to talk to and it would be helpful it that
person was a mental health professional who will listen and who has
actually been trained to help. This help is now available for free 24/7 thanks
to the Lutheran Foundation. There are several ways that you can access this
help. You can chat online with a real person. Just go to
LOOKUPINDIANA.ORG or text LOOKUP to 494949. Need help now?
You can also call 1-800-284-8439. The Lutheran Foundation says, “Silence
hurts. Whatever you’re facing, we’re here to help!” You will also find
business cards with this information printed on it on the resource tables at
either end of the church building. Feel free to take one for yourself or if you
know someone who could use it.
