CYAA 25th Anniversary Dinner 2022 Geelong Wooden Boat Festival March 11 2022 There’s a new event festival format being considered. The idea of a passage race to Geelong on the prior Friday isn’t practical. What’s being considered is organising the no charge availability of RGYC marina pens starting the weekend prior to the festival. This feature will allow entrants to sail to Geelong the weekend Merlin approaching the RGYC Marina prior to the festival. The festival organisers plan is to bring more boat to people. Sailing activites of previous festivals didn’t allow this feature to work. When the sailing activities of the last festival were cancelled for high wind conditions, the organisers saw a huge increase in public viewing attendance on the new RGYC Marina walkway facility. They want a repeat of this experience. Sydney S2H Classic Regatta Sydney based CYAA members are participating in this Sydney based regatta scheduled for December 11/12 2021 on Sydney Harbour. For all CYAA Skippersentered in our Port Phillip Summer Series and Cup Regatta please take note of this extract from the 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing with Australian Prescriptions. Analysis of our members crewing on our Port Phillip classics shows the requirements of para 3 in rule 46 will apply to about 10% of our crews. Most CYAA members crewing on our Port Phillip classic are members of the yacht clubs conducting our racing events. RRS Rule 46 PERSON IN CHARGE A boat shall have on board a person in charge designated by the member or organization that entered the boat. See rule 75. Australian Sailing prescribes that the person in charge shall be a member of a Club affiliated to Australian Sailing and have an Australian Sailing number, or, if an international competitor, a member of club affiliated to a World Sailing recognised Member National Authority. Furthermore, except in an international event, any crew member who sails in more than 3 races in a season shall be a member of a Club affiliated to Australian Sailing and have an Australian Sailing number. From 1st January 2022, all persons on board a boat while racing shall be members of a Club affiliated to Australian Sailing and have an Australian Sailing number, or hold a valid Sail Pass, or if an international competitor, be a member of club affiliated to a World Sailing recognised Member National Authority Classic 2021 Winter Series Wrap up Race 5 Cancelled While our last race of a short winter series has been lost what we did have four races with consistent numbers to show our classic yacht racing ethos is going strong . A consistent fleet of some fourteen boats took in the great sailing conditions Port Phillip waters put on for each race., three at RMYS and a pursuit start at RYCV. A view of the conditions provided by Port Phillip can be seen at this link to a series of Race three photo’s provided to us by Mark Chew and Jane Williamson. Acrospire III participating in some 2001 Winter racing on Port Phillip
Aggregate result for the 2021 Winter Series The aggregate decision was all down to the last race. It was to be a closely watched down to the wire pursuits race affair to see if Boambillee would be able to put two boats between herself and Kingurra. What role would the Race 5 fleet and their co-starters Mercedes III and Acrospire III play in that mad dash to the pursuit race finish line.was the question of the day. As we now know Race 5 had to be put aside. Sorting out the unfortunate Covid-19 situation takes precedence over a yacht race. Classic yachts can race another day, not so for some people who had no say in their untimely demise. Boambillee and her crew. Always working Boambillee 2021 Winter Series Wrap up In the series wrap while it’s well deserved congratulations to Ian Macfarlane and his Kingurra crew for their winter series take out, congratulation must as well go across the winter series fleet. Congratulations must also go to our series runner up Boambillee and Mercedes III. Yes that last race was to be some race. Mercedes III leads a pursuit race fleet home O u r Tumla ren Avain who came home a credible series aggregate fourth took out the best performing Tumlaren of the Series. Avian Skipper Roger Dundas and his crew of Martin Delves and Charles Pizzey were sure working on a race and series podium placing. Tack tracker on the move One new aspect of our Port Phillip classic yacht racing has been the implementation of the Tack Tracker feature. So far issues relating to maintaining signal acquisition to the smart phones being used to track boats during the race have dented the success of this feature. As we still have eight tracker rights available till March 2022 we’ll continue the effort to make the smart phone based tracker work. We want it to work . It’s the process that will put our Classic Yacht racing on the world stage. No more from the handicapper While there was a delay in generating these notes I hope the info and news they contain keeps us all set to sustain the ethos of Classic Yacht racing .Till the next time all the best and get those entries in. Regards to all Peter Costolloe CYAA (Vic) Handicapper It’s the racing that keeps us going.
