Church Notices for Trinity 15 (12th September 2021)
Hello Everyone,
As you may be aware, we’ve been appealing for volunteers to help with Zoom on
Sundays. We’re delighted that Sarah Vernon is joining the team. However, we need 2
people every Sunday and we don’t have that for this coming Sunday or for 3rd and 10th October so there
will be NO ZOOM service those days. We hope to broadcast the sermon on YouTube but it will be
Tuesday of next week before this Sunday’s sermon will be available.
The GOOD NEWS is that from this Sunday you do not need to book for the 9.30am service –
just turn up – and similarly on Wednesdays at 10am. We continue to encourage the wearing of masks and
we will still be receiving bread (only) at Holy Communion. Please keep a quiet, worshipful atmosphere in
church prior to the service but we are more relaxed about chatting afterwards, especially outside. If you
need to strictly social distance please let the wardens know on arrival. Sorry, no hymn on Sunday this
week as our organist is way.
We’ve been busy promoting all our September events for ‘Northfield Revealed’ this week. Don’t miss
out! Chris Rice’s walk is already ‘sold out.’
• The #NorthfieldRevealed Tapestry Arch will be in Northfield Shopping Centre THIS Saturday
11th September from 9am – 2pm. Meet the amazing Suze and Tina who led the project. The
arch will then be coming into church.
• Saturday 11th and 18th September Stuart Andrew leads a 45 min tour of church at 10.30am
He would be delighted if church members would support this as there is so much to learn about
our amazing church. If you haven’t been on one of his tours make sure it is on your bucket list and
try to put a tick by it THIS year. No need to book.
There will also be guided walks around Northfield on these Saturdays with Pop-up Drama. These
will be free. Keep an eye on NAF – Northfield Arts Forum Facebook Page or
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/169119520037
Saturday 18th September at 4pm Northfield Revealed Service with the Bishop of Birmingham.
This will be quite an informal service including most of the ‘Northfield Revealed Monologues’ (in
costume) about the church and its characters and other local people led by Northfield Arts Forum.
We are asking people to book for this service so the church isn’t too full. There is now a sign-up
list in church OR you can book https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/169360003329 OR phone Revd
Theresa
• Saturday 25th September Mrs History leads a 'drop-in' Family Community Day from 1-4pm
• Sunday 26th September 4pm “Edith Holden’s Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady in Song” in
church £10 adults £5 children Tickets now on sale via Eventbrite, in church and via the Parish
Office – we don’t plan to fill the church too full for this but we would like a good number of people
to be there! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/160723382965
If you can help steward on Saturdays 18th and 25th September (in c2 hours slots!) please contact one of the
ministry team or sign-up in church porch.
If we are to re-open ‘Saturday Morning Open Church’ into the autumn we will need stewards. Could
you help, maybe once a month, from 9.45 for 2 hours please? Sign-up sheet in the porch.Northfield Baptist Church will be open as part of Heritage Week as follows

Wednesday 15th September: 1000-1300
Thursday 16th September: 1600-1800 including Pay-as-you-feel Cafe
Saturday 18th September: 1000-1300 with a performance from the church’s BB/GB band at 12.45.
Explore Northfield Baptist Church. See the sanctuary and the baptistry-used for believers' baptisms
by immersion. Displays on past and present activities. Cafe open for drinks and snacks. Toilets
available. Craft activities provided by Northfield Arts Forum (NAF).
On the Thursday, Northfield Food Service are offering hot food in their 'pay-as-you-feel' Community
Cafe.
If you are reading this prior to Saturday 11am (!) our next Bric-a-Brac sale is on Saturday 11th September
from 9am – 12noon. Come along and get a bargain.
The Revd Phelim O’Hare (it is pronounced Fail-im!) is being licensed as our Area Dean on Monday
13th September at 7.30pm at St John’s Longbridge. Please pray for him and his family as they settle into
Birmingham. They are living in what was the Vicarage at Highters Heath.
Larry’s after-school club for secondary school children restarted this Thursday. If you would like to
drop into a session to see what volunteering involves have a word with Revd Theresa. It does enable you
to hone your table-tennis skills!
If you have a Children’s Society Box please do NOT return it to church just yet. We are hoping to
have a drop-in session on Thursday 11th November from 9.30am – 2pm in the Pastoral Centre for the
return of boxes – have a coffee whilst your box is counted. If you can’t drop-in that day please return your
box before the day but as close as possible to it as we have limited secure storage for the boxes. If you
can help on the day please contact Anne Stock. We will pause at 11am for the Remembrance silence and
prayers.
Eco Tip Are you fed up with all that post that comes through the door and goes straight into the
recycling bin? The Mailing Preference Service (MPS) is a free service which works with the direct mailing
industry to ensure mail is only received by those who want it.
To have your name and address removed from mailing lists, contact the company directly or register free
with the MPS at https://www.mpsonline.org.uk/
Do beware of bogus calls claiming to offer a similar service: the MPS never asks for a fee or any bank
details.
Did you try to watch the Nations’ Climate Service from Glasgow Cathedral last Sunday? I did but without
success as they seemed to be having even more technical problems than we have! My heart ached for
them. It did happen and was recorded and will be available soon.
Thanks to all how have returned their green hearts – the tree in church is looking lovely but there is plenty
of room for more.
Blessings

Covid
The Birmingham City Council Public Health Team has provided the following updates…
• Case rates have dropped as a whole across Birmingham, but there may be cases not being picked
up due to the decrease in both PCR and Lateral Flow testing.
• Last week, between 31 and 45 people were hospitalised in Birmingham each day due to Covid, and
19 people died.
• Spread appears to be primarily occurring through household, social and workplace
interactions. Spread often happens in the home but it isn’t inevitable: see www.germdefence.org for
ideas on keeping your household safe.
• Case numbers have risen in the 0-19 age group, and are expected to continue to increase as the
schools and colleges are starting back.
• Although there is a desire to get back to normal, in addition to having the vaccine we are
encouraged to: continue wearing masks in shops, public transport, and other crowded/confined
spaces; maintain social distance; ensure good ventilation; wash hands regularly; have lateral flow
tests twice a week; and take PCR tests for even mild symptoms.
Let’s all do our bit to keep each other safe.
