Lent is a period of intense spiritual reflection as we prepare for
                                                                                            Easter. Throughout our history, Christians have found prayer, fasting,
                                                                                            and almsgiving to be an important part of repentance and renewal.
                                                                                            Traditionally, Catholics give up something for Lent. Many Catholics now
                                                                                            also add something during Lent, either to address personal habits that need
                                                                                            improvement or to add some outreach to others in need.
                                                                                               At St. Anthony’s School, we were engaged in two almsgiving projects
                                                                                            during Lent to reach out to those in need. At the global level, we were
                                                                                            participating in Catholic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl program. Our donation
                                                                                            will assist in serving the poorest among us in 100 countries worldwide.
                                                                                            CRS is the official humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in
                                                                                            the United States. Locally, 25% of the funds collected for the Rice Bowl
                                                                                            Program will go to Catholic Charities to assist those in need in the Fresno
                                                                                            area. We also participated in a hygiene products drive for the clients of
                                                                                            Holy Cross Women’s Center.
                                                                                               Other Lent activities included our weekly School Mass; our celebration
                                                                                            of First Reconciliation for our 2nd grade students on March 1; retreats
                                                                                            for our 7th and 8th grade students; a staff retreat; a Living Stations of the
                                                                                            Cross during Holy Week; and our Holy Thursday Prayer Service.

The Realization of a Dream

    So for three years I shared the dream of a newlywed celebration with
each couple that I prepared. I made it a priority to attend their wedding

                                                                                  On Sunday, February 11, the day of Consecration and the feast of Our
                                                                             Lady of Lourdes, the Catholic Daughters attended the 11 a.m. Mass. After
                                                                             Communion, a few of the Catholic Daughters gave testimony as to how
                                                                             this Consecration has impacted their lives.
                                                                                  St. Anthony of Padua will sponsor another parish Consecration to the

spiritual journey as a congregation. We took the necessary steps to do a
parish-wide Marian Consecration using the booklet 33 Days to Morning
Glory written by Michael E. Gaitley, MIC.  This booklet guides individuals
through a personal retreat for 33 days which culminates on a Feast Day of
the Virgin Mary.  Our Court’s Spiritual Advisor, Barbara Alaimo, sought
the advice of Monsignor Esquivel. With his blessings and direction, our
Catholic Daughters: Our Lady of Grace #2637, were to be the seed of
inspiration by completing our Consecration on the Feast of Our Lady of
Lourdes.
    As we lived our retreat we placed articles in the bulletin week by
week to explain what was happening. On the day of our Consecration
