Chile & Patagonia January 09 - 21, 2022 Preposterously thin and unreasonably long, Chile stretches from the belly of South America to its foot, reaching from the driest desert on earth to vast southern glacial fields. Diverse landscapes unfurl over a 4300km stretch: parched dunes, fertile valleys, volcanoes, ancient forests, massive glaciers and fjords. Golf in Chile is special. It is not on the PGA's map, however for the golf lover traveling to Chile, a round or two is a must. The country's beautiful natural terrains are being folded into world-class golf courses and the sport's popularity is quickly rising. You then have the wine area of Valparaiso, one of the 10 Great Wine Capitals of the world where you experience exquisite food and wine pairings at the stately vineyards in the central region. Golf. Wine, Gastronomy and Glaciers – this is an unforgettable experience! January 09 On arrival in Santiago, you will be met and transferred to the 5 star Noi Vitaura Hotel. The remainder of the day is free to rest up after the long journey before gathering as a group for a welcome cocktail party. Santiago is the capital and economic centre of Chile and with its many museums, events, theaters, restaurants, bars and other entertainment and cultural opportunities, it is also the cultural center of the country. Its central location in the country makes it a great base for visiting other areas and it is possible to ski in the nearby Andes and later be on the beach, all in the same day! January 10 After breakfast, you will have a city tour that starts at the city's Civic Center with the neoclassical La Moneda Palace and continues through the bustling streets of the city downtown to the renown pre-Colombian Art Museum, whose collection contains more 1,500 ceramics and textiles from the Inca, Maya and Aztec cultures. It then goes on to the Central Market with its colorful display of fruits, seafood, fish and flowers and then stops at the Santa Lucia hill, the founding site of Santiago in 1541. By noon, you will arrive at the Santa Rita vineyard for lunch and wine tasting. Founded in 1880, Viña Santa Rita is a prosperous and award winning wine producer with worldwide exports and some of the best Chilean wines. January 11 It is time to hit the golf course so today you depart the hotel in the morning to the Hacienda de Chicureo Golf Course (roughly 30 minutes from the hotel). This beautiful 18 hole course was designed by Mike Asmundson and built in 1998. The first nine holes, (Loma Larga) are fairly flat and go from West to East, which means that the wind from the coast comes into your game. The second nine holes, (Cerro Colorado are a little bit hilly but less windy, as it surrounds the Cerro Colorado. After golf and some refreshments at the 19th hole, you head back to the hotel where the remainder of the day and evening is free. January 12 Today is a full day as you combine sightseeing and golf. You depart the hotel at 8:00AM for the 1 ½ hour drive to Valparaiso. On arrival, you will have a tour of “Valpo”, as it's fondly known by locals, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its not difficult to see why. Picturesque architecture and multi- coloured urban housing spread out over more than 40 hills, creating one of world's most eclectic, unique cities. Narrow, winding streets line the hills, connected by hidden staircases and ancient elevators still in use. After lunch you will enjoy a round of golf at the Granadilla Club de Campo, ranked as the 4th best course in Chile, and which can trace its roots back to 1897 when the Club was established by a group of English businessmen working in the nearby South Pacific seaport. After golf is done, you head back to Santiago where you will arrive back at the hotel early in the evening. January 13 The morning is free to relax or do a little exploring on your own. Then at noon you will depart the hotel for the exclusive winery, Haras de Pirque, for lunch and a wine tasting. January 14 It is back to the golf course after breakfast as you depart for a round at Brisas de Chicureo (roughly a 20 minute drive from the hotel). This 36 hole course is a beautiful layout, wild in its environment and a course layout to suit all levels of players. After your round is done, you have the remainder of the afternoon free and evening to enjoy dinner in one of the cities fantastic restaurants.
January 15 It is time to depart Santiago and continue your adventure in Chile. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for the late morning flight to Puerto Montt (flying time 1 ¾ hours)located in the Chilean Patagonia Region. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Puerto Varas where you will check into the 5 star Cumbres de Puerto Varas Hotel. The remainder of your day is free to relax at your leisure. January 16 This day will be another fantastic full day experience. You depart after breakfast to the town of Frutillar which sits in the heart of the Lake Region of Patagonia and specifically borders Llanquihue Lake, the largest lake in Chile. Sighted by Charles Darwin in 1832 and colonized by German settlers in 1856, Frutillar is known for its historic 19th-century architecture and offers views of six volcanoes: Osorno, Antillanca, Puyehue, Pun-tiagudo, Tronador and Calbuco, who stand as guardians of what many have considered one of the world's most breathtaking destinations. After lunch you will arrive at the Patagonia Virgin Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus designed track that is ranked as the best Chilean Golf Course by Top100courses, even though only 9 holes are open. Angel Cabrera who inaugurated the course and having previewed the nine to be finished, has said when done, it will rank as one of the top layouts in Latin America. The course is located overlooking the great Llanquihue Lake and the views to the lake, volcanoes and nearby centennial rain forest are simply outstanding! After golf and some refreshments, it is time to head back to the hotel where you will arrive early in the evening. January 17 The experience continues for today you check out of your hotel and depart after breakfast to the Puerto Varas Pier where you will travel from Chile to Argentina via the Andean Lakes Crossing, the most scenic way to travel from Argentina to Chile. This spectacular crossing of the Andes takes you through lakes and mountain passes that eventually ends in Bariloche, Argentina. During the trip you will have many impressive views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes which dominate the landscape. At the entrance to the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park you stop to visit the Saltos del Petrohué with its unique volcanic rock formations, bathed in the emerald green waterfalls. From there you sail to Peulla, navigating across Lake Todos los Santos. On arrival in Peulla you will have lunch on the island before boarding a bus that takes you to Puerto Frias. Enroute you clear customs for Argentina before again boarding a boat which then takes you across Lake Frias towards Puerto Alegre. Upon arrival you board the next bus that takes you to Puerto Blest for your final boat across Lake Nahuel Huapi, destined for Puerto Pañuelo. Once again you disembark and are now only a short distance from your destination, the 5 star Llao Llao Llao Resort Golf & Spa, (a member of the Leadings Hotel of the World) where you check in. January 18 After the stunning scenic day of travelling through the Andes lake country, it is time to head back to the golf course. After breakfast you will have a tee off time at the Llao LLao Golf Club. Its superb location, surrounded by deep-blue lakes, snow-covered mountains and natural forests, allows its fairways and greens to be perfectly integrated to the environment. The 18th hole is one of the two holes in argentina that are among the best 500 hundred In the world. It is a 180 par 3 in which you´ll need to fly tee-to-green otherwise you will end up “snorkeling” on the Nahuel Huapi Lake!
January 19 Your last day in Patagonia also is your last day of golf. After breakfast you transfer to the Arelauquen Golf Club, another of the very scenic Patagonia courses. After golf and some refreshments at the course, you will have a unique adventure and gourmet experience. The Arelauquen Refugio (mountain shelter) is situated on the summit of Cerro Otto, and here you will enjoy gastronomic delights whilst experiencing the deep silence of the forest all around. The breathtaking panoramic view of the Andean cordillera and lakes Nahuel Huapi, Gutiérrez and Moreno, plus the cosiness of the restaurant, set the tone for some truly magical moments for this last night. This mountaintop restaurant rests on a natural viewpoint at 1300m and getting there in 4x4's will be part of the adventure! January 20 You check out of your hotel in the morning and transfer to the nearby airport for the flight to Buenos Aires departing just after lunch. On arrival in Buenos Aires, you will be transferred to the LoiSuites Recoleta Hotel. Buenos Aires is a charming city with a strong influence of most of the main European cities. Beautiful walks, avenues, parks, monumental buildings, cafes, museums and churches gathered in 26 districts, each with its own distinct personality, gives it a truly cosmopolitan air. The remainder of the afternoon is free to maybe explore nearby Recoleta Cemetary or just relax before heading out to one of the cities fantastic restaurants. ( January 21 The journey ends today as you check out of your hotel to catch your flight on home or to your next destination. *** There are some fantastic add ons that you might want to consider either before or after the main itinerary. These include a pre trip visit to the incredible ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru, or post trip visits to either the southern extremity of South America in Southern Patagonia or the incredible Iguassu Falls. Or simply a couple extra nights in Buenos Aires.
