A Note FROM THE PRESIDENT April has been a wonderful month at Mimosa Hills. We have had a high level of play and the course is improving daily despite some challenging weather conditions. We enjoyed a successful Member-Member Tournament on April 24th & 25th. Jimmy, Dan, and Stella along with their respective staff did a wonderful job as always – thank you! I have been asked frequently about our financial situation and I am happy to report we are doing well. We have a new membership drive in place and our referral program offers incentives for existing members. P00015 I en- courage each member to help us grow by inviting family, friends, and co-workers to join. The best way to stay financially healthy is to grow our membership, therefore, we need you as members promoting Mimosa Hills. If you have questions about the membership drive or referral program, please contact the business office for details. As we continue to receive money from our 13th month program, the board is committed to improvement projects for the entire facility. We are currently working on a priority list to ensure we allocate funds appropriately. The Preservation Donor’s program is moving along, but we need your continued support (above and beyond) to help with key projects. Please consider supporting if you are not already doing so as the positive impact on our course can be seen clearly from past efforts. As a reminder, we are still requiring masks and social distancing when entering our facilities. We continue to follow state guidelines and want to be cautious in order to protect our staff when inside the clubhouse. Lastly, I want to encourage each member to support our food & beverage program. We want each of you dining and enjoying our wonderful facilities to help us grow and improve services. Please connect with Stella and her team and let's make Mimosa a priority! Regards, Dean Radford 2021 Board President Dean with his family, Grayson, Vivian, Will, Makayla, Leah, and Braylee.

From Your GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Weather – Last year was a wet year with 72”, which is about 20” over the average. So far for 2021 we are about average through April. The temperatures continue to be above average. We have had the usual spring nuisance frost, which keep knocking the bermudagrass back. This happens every year, but as temperatures warm in May the warm season grass will pop back and green up. Usually we fertilize the tees, fairways and roughs in mid to late May once full green up occurs. Course Conditions – The greens have been in great shape this spring. At this time of year the bentgrass roots are as strong as they can be. Bentgrass is a cool season grass and every summer we will lose 50-75% of the root mass due to the heat and rising soil temperatures. This is an agronomic certainty. So every year the roots begin their recovery in the fall, and then continue through the winter and spring. Mild winters surely help. The 7.5” deep pencil sized solid tine went well at the end of March. The idea is to chase some roots deep prior to the summer months. In early May we will core aerate, topdress and verti-cut the greens. Also, for the third year, we will have the ‘Dryject’ aerification done directly afterwards. This program of basically double aerify- ing in May has proven to do very well for our greens from a performance standpoint. We want to keep our greens at the USGA recommended organic matter content of 3%. The greens are tested every year by a reputa- ble lab. All of the stumps from felled trees were ground and cleaned up. Dirt will be added and we will put either ber- mudagrass seed or sod in those areas. We will continue with other projects like adding sand to bunkers, remov- ing over grown bushes/hedges, mulching and of course mowing/blowing. Bunkers – We now have the rakes out at the bunkers, so we have to re-condition ourselves to rake out our dis- turbances. Unfortunately, some of the new sand came contaminated with rocks. The rules of golf allow you to move loose impediments in a sand bunker. Please help out and toss any rocks you come upon out into the ‘rough’ not the short cut grass. Thanks for your assistance. CGA Agronomist Visit – Bill Anderson, Carolinas Golf Association Agronomist, paid us our yearly visit on Thursday, April 15th. We met with the Board of Governors, Head Golf Pro Jimmy Piercy, and Assistant Su- perintendent Brian Reddick. We discussed topics such as agronomic programs, special projects, course condi- tions, maintenance equipment, and irrigation systems. Please review the report posted in the eblast that was submitted by Mr. Anderson. Feel free to inquire about any questions and or comments you may have. Preservation Donors Club – Thanks to all for their support in this wonderful effort. Hole #15 was a great success last year. We look forward to completing some much needed cart path repair and also continue re- grassing areas in need on holes #16, #17 and #3. -Dan Winters Golf Course Superintendent

Mimosa Hills PRESERVATION CLUB We hope you are as excited as we are that Spring is here and our golf course will be rounding into great shape. The Mimosa Hills Preservation Donors Club is continuing the tradition of helping the club improve our golf course through member donations. Our 2021 focus is on improving the playability of holes 16 and 17. Dan Winters and his staff have already se- lectively thinned a few trees to allow more sunlight onto the grass. Trees that were previously taken down have had their stumps ground. Sod will be applied to the right side of hole 16 and the left side of hole 17 dur- ing the warm summer months when our Bermuda grass grows. In addition, cart path repairs will be done on those holes and around the course as funds allow. The work to improve our wonderful golf course is courtesy of the Mimosa Hills Preservation Donors Club do- nations. This dedicated group of members has previously raised the funds to improve holes 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15 and 18 as well as fund the Leyland Cyprus replacement and the addition of over 400 tons of sand to our bunkers. Just imagine Mimosa Hills without those improvements! The 2021 solicitation letters and pledge forms were mailed out in early February. If you have already pledged a 2021 donation, thank you and please mention this wonderful opportunity to your golfing buddies. If you have not pledged for 2021, please give it serious consideration. More information and pledge forms are available through either the pro shop or the office.
