Chemeca 2022 incorporating Hazards Australasia Sponsorship Prospectus 25 September – 27 September 2022 Melbourne, Australia www.chemeca.org
Chemeca 2022 Greener, Safer, Cleaner Chemical Engineering for the Next Century Invitation to sponsor Chemeca 2022 incorporating Hazards Australasia The fifty-first Chemeca will be held from 25-27 September 2022, in Melbourne, Victoria. For the first time Chemeca will be held in conjunction with Hazards Australasia. The event will bring together chemical and process safety engineers from Australia, New Zealand and across the globe to celebrate the centenary of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). The theme for Chemeca 2022 is Greener, Safer, Cleaner - Chemical Engineering for the Next Century, which is a vision for the next 100 years of the chemical engineering profession. Chemeca is the opportunity for chemical engineering professionals and those in associated disciplines to learn from each other. It provides a platform for cross-pollination across a wide range of industries, facilitating innovation. It provides a platform for industry and academia to discuss and debate the latest advances and best practices to face the challenges of the 21st century in the Australasian region, and to explore the future. www.chemeca.org
Among the many challenges faced by society, new energy, carbon reduction, clean water, nutritious and affordable food and sustainable materials, there are an equal number of opportunities for the chemicals industry to reshape our interactions with the planet to make them Greener, Safer and Cleaner. These are opportunities for our young engineers to see their profession in a new light to create new businesses and bring new products to life. The academic and scientific community must respond by training students and young scientists in the areas of traditional chemical engineering such as heat and mass transfer and reaction engineering and integrating this knowledge with emerging areas of nano- and bio-sensors, and additive manufacturing. In this edition of Chemeca, we explore all these opportunities to bring together industry and academia to start the next 100 years journey of innovation in chemical sciences and engineering. After two years of lockdowns, we hope to emerge in 2022 with an opportunity to engage across Australia and New Zealand, and our partners across the globe, to rebuild old networks and create new ones, and to position Chemical Engineering to provide solutions for the next century. This year, we have specifically tailored the program to appeal to both industry practitioners and government representatives and researchers. Our inspiring plenary and keynote speakers will bring these groups together. We hope you will join us for the opportunity of a century to celebrate the past 100 years of achievements and lay the foundations for the next 100 years of success. Mark Banaszak Holl Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Monash University Process safety emerging from uncertain times The year 2020 started with difficult times in Australia, first with the widespread bush fires and then with the global pandemic. This continued with ongoing disruption and human toll into 2021. Both events have significant impacts on how we are doing business and how we’re living. They also necessitated a change to how we manage process safety on a day to day basis. The workforce is strained with people unable to work for several reasons. There is evidence of the “great resignation” as we emerge from the pandemic, with people moving on from their roles after deciding they want a different work life balance. How is your facility or company adapting to these changes in resource availability? How are leaders in your organisation adapting to these changing circumstances? How are your facilities monitored remotely? How well are your emergency response plans and business continuity plans standing up to the stress? How are you managing the changing needs of third-party interfaces, with people who may not be as familiar with your facilities? At Hazards Australasia 2022 we are interested to hear your lessons learned from dealing with these uncertain and disrupted times, in addition to other learnings you can share. If we commit to understanding how we performed and what lessons can be learned, we will be better placed in the future to manage the next uncertain time. We look forward to welcoming you in Melbourne at Hazards Australasia 2022. Trish Kerin Director, IChemE Safety Centre
