MARCH 2022 CHECK IT OUT THE NEWSLETTER FOR ADULTS @ THE ENID PUBLIC LIBRARY FRIENDS USED BOOK SALE MARCH 17-19 THIS ISSUE: FOL USED BOOK SALE Support Friends of the Library and the Enid Public Library by PAGE 01 purchasing books and media at the March book sale. The sale will run during operating hours on Thursday and Friday, and Saturday LIFELONG LEARNING @ EPL from 9:00-12:00. PAGE 02 FOL is a group of library fans who support, volunteer, and advocate for the library. Membership is $10 a year for individuals, and HEALTH ACTIVITES @EPL business membership is $200. Want to help, but can't swing the PAGE 03 membership? You can still help by assisting with book sales, like BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS the one this month, serving on a FOL committee, or planning special PAGE 04 events. Maybe you have a lot of contacts in town, and you could help bring them onboard. Did you know that there is a FOL-sponsored LINK TO PRINTABLE CALENDAR pollinator garden at the library? Maybe you'd like to help out this PAGE 04 spring and summer with watering and weeding. Stop by the library's front desk to pick up information about Friends and a membership form. Lifelong Learning @ EPL Lifelong learning is the ongoing, voluntary, and self- motivated pursuit of Grow Your Own: Seed Bombs knowledge for either personal Do you like to play in the mud? If so, join us at 5:00 pm on March 15. Using or professional reasons. It is important for an individual's natural ingredients, you will create a ball that can be tossed onto the ground (not buried) and will eventually sprout and grow into deep-rooted plants. This is an employability, but also all-ages activity. enhances social inclusion, U.S. Citizenship Test Prep Classes active citizenship, and personal development. Classes are offered each Wednesday at 6:00 pm. These free classes help prepare students for the English, civics, reading, and writing portions of the U.S. citizenship interview. Conversational English Do you want to improve your English conversational skills? EPL offers introductory English classes Thursdays at 1:00. Will not meet on 3/17 due to spring break. Health Literacy Grant The Enid Public Library received a Health Literacy Grant to provide health and wellness programming to the local community. The project is funded through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries with a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act. A variety of health literacy classes for all ages began in September of 2021 and run through the spring of 2022 For more information about these events, visit the library’s website at enid.okpls.org. *The wellness activities on page 3 are supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. Health Activities @ EPL Health Activities Schedule SAIL: Staying Active and Independent for LifeStaying Active and Independent for Life* This fitness program for older adults can be done either seated or standing. Mondays & Wednesdays Performing exercise that improves strength, balance, and fitness is critical for staying active and reducing the risk of falls. This class is led by Chris 11:30 am SAIL Anderson from Northwest OHAI Center for Healthy Aging through a grant from Park Avenue Thrift. Please dress in comfortable clothing, including supportive athletic shoes. Easy Yoga for Strength and Balance* Strength and Balance Yoga is offered each Monday evening at 5:15 pm. Many people feel more Tuesdays stressed on Mondays than on other days. This may be due to sleeping in on the weekend and thus interrupting your body's natural rhythm, or experiencing a feeling of a loss of freedom moving from the weekend to the workweek. Practicing yoga on Monday evening is a wonderful way to 12:00 pm Mindfulness wind down and prepare for the rest of the week ahead. Practicing Mindfulness: An Introduction to Meditation* While we usually meet at the library, on March 8 we will meet at The Garfield County Extension Demonstration Garden to discuss the benefits of walking a labyrinth and then walk the labyrinth together. News for local Authors Published authors with ties to Enid are cordially invited to apply for participation in the 2022 Enid Author Fest to be held at the Enid Public Library Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 1:00-5:00 pm. Local author festivals provide an opportunity for authors to showcase their work while developing connections in the area, and the public learns about authors publishing right here in their neighborhood. Attendees can meet some of the top writing talents in the region, sample their work, and even take home an autographed book.
