We strongly urge you to review all the runner information on the BOA Chicago Marathon website and the participant guide, which will be mailed in Mid-September (US Residents only) and email (both US and International). PUBLIC SAFETY - EVENT ALERT SYSTEM A color-coded Event Alert System (EAS) will communicate the status of course conditions to participants leading up to and on race day. The levels range from Low (green) to Moderate (yellow) to High (red) to Extreme (black) based primarily on the weather, as well as other conditions. • Email and website communication during race week will inform and provide preparation tips based on advance weather forecasts. • Updates will be made at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo via handouts and public address announcements. • On race day, the current Event Alert System status will be communicated via public address announcements and color-coded signs/flags at the start and finish areas, and along the course at each of the aid station locations and large digital traffic message boards. All participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System prior to the race, remain alert for directions from race officials and announcers and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather conditions on race day. Event Alert System table: CLEAR GEAR CHECK BAGS The red/blue/grey clear bags distributed by the Bank of America Chicago Marathon at the expo are ONLY mandatory if you plan to gear check with the race in Grant Park. Please make sure the bag has your name and race number attached and note that the color of your bag is linked to your corral and wave. If you plan to gear check with the TEAM PAWS Chicago Congress Hotel venue, then you can use and bring any bags that you like. If you think you might be running late and may not make it to the TEAM PAWS Chicago venue before the race, then we recommend using the clear bag, so you do not risk being turned away at the race- operated gear check stations. 12
