discerning and unique. Presenting art across borders, countries and nationalities;
taking risks and opening minds.

“UKYA City Takeover is something of the kaleidoscopic cultural and artistic
diversity and relevance of what the artists are making now in response
to the personal and world issues and challenges we face as a society. The
performances were spine tingling - cannot reiterate how much I enjoyed it.” -
JUSTIN HIBBS, ARTIST AND SELECTOR FOR MEDITERRANEA18
“It is easy for us to be caught up in the nuts and bolts of what we do and to
stick to “this is what we do”. The UKYA Biennale made us think and showed
us how our space can work in other ways, opening doors and flagging
up new ways of doing things.” - VENUE, CITY TAKEOVER 2016

“UKYA City Takeover opened my eyes to art
more than ever before. It inspired me to think
of new ways of presenting my work and how
much further I can develop it. I made a lot of new
creative friends at the biennale and we all keep in
touch now which is amazing. Since UKYA Derby
2016 I’ve collaborated with an artist I met there
to make a new piece which we performed at an
International Biennale in Tirana. I am so grateful
to UKYA for accepting my craft, spending an
intense weekend with so many talented artists
and absorbing their creativity was one of the
most powerful things I’ve ever experienced.“
