Past host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, Vancouver is located on a large natural harbour, surrounded by the rugged Coastal Mountains. If time permits, on the way from the airport we’ll visit Queen Elizabeth Park and do a little sightseeing before arriving at our hotel for the next 2 nights. Tonight enjoy a special Welcome Dinner. Overnight Vancouver – Sheraton Wall Centre or similar Day 2 – July 12 VICTORIA & BUTCHART GARDENS B/D An early morning departure will take us to the BC Ferry terminal for a spectacular 90-minute cruise through the Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island. We’ll travel the short distance to Victoria, capital city of British Columbia and one of the most beautiful cities in Canada. After a short city tour there will be time to explore the shops, museums and galleries of this little bit of “Old England”. Next we arrive at the world-famous Butchart Gardens where there will be lots of time to explore the 50-acres of colour and floral beauty.. Later in the afternoon we board our deluxe BC Ferry and enjoy a fine buffet dinner as we cruise back to the mainland through the Gulf Islands. Overnight Vancouver – Sheraton Wall Centre or similar Day 3 – July 13 ROCKY MOUNTAINEER - VANCOUVER – KAMLOOPS B/L Early this morning our motorcoach will transfer us to the rail station. Here, we’ll board the famous Rocky Mountaineer for our spectacular 2-day journey from Vancouver to Jasper. We’ll be riding in the Luxury of SilverLeaf Service with comfortable reserved seating and spectacular viewing. A hot gourmet breakfast is served as the train pulls out of Vancouver and heads east through the lush Fraser River Valley. Soon we will be traveling along the rugged cliffs of the Fraser River surrounded by the peaks of the Coastal and Cascade mountains. A hot lunch will also be served along with constant snacks, fresh cookies and complimentary bar
and non- alcohol drinks. Later in the day we join the Thompson River system and climb to the desert-like- environment of British Columbia’s interior plateau. Our day concludes as we travel along the shores of Lake Kamloops to the city of the same name. Overnight Kamloops – Hotel provided by Rocky Mountaineer Day 4 – July 14 ROCKY MOUNTAINEER – KAMLOOPS – LAKE LOUISE B/L/D We depart early this morning for our second day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. As a hot breakfast is served we’ll departing from Kamloops and work our way east along the South Thompson River Valley. Passing along the shores of the Shuswap Lakes we’ll enter the Purcell Mountains and cross the majestic Columbia River near the alpine community of Revelstoke. We tunnel under the Rogers Pass and follow the rugged Illecillewaet River into Yoho National Park. Traveling through the famous Spiral Tunnels, the train enters the province of Alberta and Banff National Park. A leisurely pace along the banks of the Bow River brings us to the end of our memorable rail journey as we arrive in Lake Louise. Overnight Lake Louise – Lake Louise Inn or similar Day 5 – July 15 LAKE LOUISE & YOHO NATIONAL PARK TOURING B/D Awaken this morning and, spend some time viewing this spectacular lake and the shimmering Victoria Glacier. Mid-morning, we’ll make our way to the Trans Canada Highway and head west into Yoho National Park and the province of British Columbia. Along the way we’ll stop in at beautiful Moraine Lake and the famed Valley of the Ten Peaks. We’ll continue our adventure with a stop to view the amazing engineering feat of the Spiral Tunnels before arriving at the Kicking Horse River and beautiful Emerald Lake. This afternoon, we’ll stop at the “Natural Bridge” formation before heading back to Lake Louise. Overnight Lake Louise – Lake Louise Inn or similar Day 6 –July 16 COLUMBIA ICEFIELDS TOURING B Another spectacular day lies ahead as we travel along the world famous Icefield Highway. Today’s journey will traverse two 6,000 ft mountain passes, five separate river systems, dozens of mountain streams and lakes and the largest Glacial mass south of the Arctic Circle. At the top of the Sunwapta Pass you’ll enter Jasper National Park and catch your first glimpse of the massive Columbia Icefields. Board a specially designed Ice Explorer vehicle and trundle out on the 1,000 foot thick Athabasca Glacier. Your journey continues south driving alongside glacial rivers and past the azure blue waters of Bow and Peyto Lakes. Soon the Icefield Highway joins the Trans Canada highway and the coach heads east following the Bow River to the alpine resort of Banff and your deluxe mountainside accommodation. Overnight Banff – Banff Caribou Lodge or similar Day 7 – July 17 EXPLORING BANFF B/D It’s time to explore this iconic alpine resort. This morning we’ll take the enclosed gondola to the top of 7500 ft Sulphur Mountain and view the amazing Rocky Mountain vista that surrounds us on all sides. Our tour continues including thundering Bow Falls, the mysterious “Hoodoos” and Lake Minnewanka and the famous Banff Springs Hotel. Enjoy some time to explore at leisure before we enjoy a wonderful farewell dinner tonight at a local restaurant. Overnight Banff – Banff Caribou Lodge or similar Day 8 – July 18 BANFF TO CALGARY B Leaving Banff we head east in to the prairies of Alberta and soon arrive at Calgary International Airport where our onward journey begins.
