Prominence) 19th November 2018 Drinking Water & Sanitation Swachh Bharat Mission to celebrate World Toilet Day What The Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) will celebrate the World Toilet Day tomorrow with mass awareness and mobilization activities across States and districts. The focus is on usage of toilets, which is closely linked to the Prime Minister’s call for a Swachh Bharat by October 2019.
Connect to the day The central part of the day’s celebrations is the the Swachh Bharat World Toilet Day Contest 2018 among all districts by organizing grassroots activities involving district, block and panchayat level teams, swachhagrahis and swachhata champions. The objective is to engage with communities and reaffirm the national resolve to a sustain the Sanitation achievement. Connect to SBM Since the inception of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the rural sanitation coverage of India has increased significantly, from 39% in October 2014 to over 96% today. Over 8.8 crore household toilets have been built by rural Indians. As a result, 25 States/Union Territories, 530 districts, and over 5.2 lakh villages have declared themselves free from open defecation. The number of people practicing open defecation in rural India has gone down from 550 million in 2014, to less than 100 million today through the progress made under the Swachh Bharat Mission In recognition to the work done by the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Toilet Summit in Mumbai tomorrow. Connect to World Toilet Summit 2018 World Toilet Summit-2018”, organized by the World Toilet Organisation co-organizer Ecosan Services Foundation on the occasion of the World Toilet Day. The event will take place on November 19-20, 2018, at Mumbai, India. Ever since its conception in 2001, the World Toilet Organisation has been part of several advocacy and awareness initiatives with the World Toilet Summit being one of the key elements. Having been hosted in over 12 countries (14 cities) so far, the summit has gained a substantial global footprint India itself has hosted the summit twice, in 2007 and 2015. Now, in its 18th year, the Summit will yet again take place in India, in support of the Government’s ‘’Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’’ (Clean India Mission) The mission aims to achieve the ‘open defecation free status’ by 2019 and WTS 2018 aims to be a key motivational factor towards the successful completion of this mission. The summit will attract over 300 International and National /global experts from Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector, including
delegates from leading corporate houses, Government agencies, ULB’s, NGOs and social business delegates. The summit provides the participants, an international networking platform to exchange knowledge, and leverage media and corporate support in an effort to influence policy-makers and governments to promote clean sanitation and public health policies. National Qaumi Ekta Week begins tomorrow What With a view to foster and reinforce the spirit of Communal Harmony, National Integration and pride in vibrant, composite culture and nationhood, the “Qaumi Ekta Week” (National Integration Week) will be observed all over the country, from tomorrow to 25th November, 2018. The week long programmes to be observed during Qaumi Ekta Week will be as under: November 19, 2018 will be observed as National Integration Day and programmes like meetings, symposia and seminars will be organized to emphasize the themes of secularism, anti-communalism and non- violence. November 20, 2018 will be observed as Welfare of Minorities Day and Items of the 15 Point Programme are emphasized on this day. In riot prone towns, special fraternal processions are taken out. November 21, 2018 will be observed as Linguistic Harmony Day. Programmes like Special literary functions and Kavi Sammelans will be
organized to enable people of each region to appreciate the linguistic heritage of other parts of India. November 22, 2018 will be observed as Weaker Sections Day and meetings and rallies will be organized to highlight programmes under various Governments which help SCs/STs and weaker sections with particular emphasis on the distribution of surplus land to landless labourers. November 23, 2018 will be observed as Cultural Unity Day and cultural functions will be organized to present the Indian tradition of unity in diversity and for promoting cultural conservation and integration. November 24, 2018 will be observed as Women’s Day. On this day, the importance of Women in Indian Society and their role in development of nation-building are highlighted. November 25, 2018 will be observed as Conservation Day and several meetings and functions will be organized to emphasise the growing need for awareness and action to conserve the environment. Connect to the week The observation of the ‘Quami Ekta Week’ will help to highlight the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand actual and potential threats to the eclectic and secular fabric of our country, and nurture a spirit of communal harmony in its widest sense. This occasion also provides an opportunity to reaffirm age old traditions and faith in the values of tolerance, co-existence and brotherhood in a multi-cultural and multi-religious society. Connect to NFCH The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organisation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, organises Communal Harmony Campaign coinciding with the Qaumi Ekta Week and observes the Communal Harmony Flag Day on 25th November. The Foundation promotes Communal Harmony and strengthens National Integration. It also provides financial assistance for relief and rehabilitation of children rendered orphan or destitute in communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence.

Organising agencies The two-day conference which is being organized by Bureau of Police Research &Development in collaboration with Jharkhand Police, is the only national level platform to address the issues of Women in uniform and create an enabling atmosphere for them to maximize and optimize their professional potential. Efforts made by NCWP NCWP has been continuously working on strengthening and monitoring of mechanism to deal with sexual harassment in all the Police Organizations / CPOs by suggesting active ways and means. Sincere efforts have been made for issues related with gender sensitization for all police ranks, exclusive infrastructural development for women police like rest rooms, toilets, crèche etc., equal opportunities for women in career planning and other welfare measures like maternity and child care leave, police housing for women workforce etc. Connect to BPR&D The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), was set up on 28 August 1970 in furtherance of the objective of the Government of India for the modernisation of police forces. In India, the sector is called micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and the priority given to the sector allows the smallest enterprises to gain a global outreach. The theme of this year's fair is 'Rural Enterprises in India'. The 38th edition of the 14-day long IITF was unveiled Connect to IITF IITF has become an awaited event for our exporters and importers in Delhi. The time has now come for the government to take care of more than 40 per cent manufacturers in the MSME sector, who hail from rural India More than 800 trade participants from 48 countries and all Indian states have assembled in Delhi to take part in this year's mega fair. Among the main countries represented in the fair were China, Italy, Germany, Mongolia, Thailand, South Korea, Tunisia, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar among others.
To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, special significance was given to rural products and produce in the trade fair. More than 350 domestic traders will participate this year. The partner country for this year's fair is Afghanistan, with a contingent of 80 traders. The focus country this year is Nepal and the focus state is Jharkhand. The hill nation and India's tribal state are taking part with considerable participation of rural artisans, craftsmen and SME entrepreneurs. India Trade Promotion Organisation has earmarked initial four days (November 14-17) for the business visitors. The fair will be open for public from November 18-27. It is located close to elephant conservation and care centre. It is designed to treat injured, sick or geriatric elephants. It is equipped with medical hoist for lifting elephants. It also has elephant restraining device with dedicated indoor treatment enclosure for long duration medical procedures. Connect to Wildlife SOS It is conservation non-profit organisation established in 1995 with primary objective of rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife in distress in country and preserving India’s natural heritage. It is currently one of the largest Wildlife Organisations in South Asia. Works in which the organisation is involved with - Rescue and rehabilitation of sloth bears and elephants. Projects focused on mitigation of human wildlife conflict with regard to species.
