DAY 2: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 • KRAKÓW Upon arrival in Kraków, meet your tour director, transfer to the hotel and check-in. Transfer to Market Square and witness the Wit Stwosz altar at St Mary’s “Mariacki” Church (time permitting). Celebrate an opening Mass prior to a special welcome dinner as a group. Overnight in Kraków. DAY 3: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 • KRAKÓW After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely walking tour of Kraków, acclimating yourself with its rich history. Stroll through Old Town’s Main Square to get a feel of the city, from the incredible gothic architecture to the cafes and restaurants to the vibrance of the local markets. Walk through St. Florian’s Gate, one of the best-known Polish Gothic Towers, built in the 14th century, as you make your way to celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. Florian. It is here where Fr. Karol Wojtyla served as Associate Pastor. Following Mass, enjoy lunch on your own and an afternoon at leisure to explore the Old Town on your own. Come together in the evening for a group dinner and overnight in Kraków DAY 4: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 • WADOWICE | WAWEL CATHEDRAL This morning, visit Wadowice, the birthplace and hometown of St. John Paul II. Visit his house, now a museum. Explore the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary where the baptismal font he was baptized in resides. Lunch on your own. Proceed to Wawel Hill to celebrate Mass at the Wawel Cathedral where Karol Wojtyla was ordained a priest and celebrated his first Mass. After Mass, tour the cathedral and Wawel Hill. Walk along Kanonicza street where St. John Paul II resided as priest and bishop. Evening at leisure and overnight in Kraków. DAY 5: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 • CZESTOCHOWA After breakfast, depart for Czestochowa, the center of Poland’s religious life and home of the famous icon of the Black Madonna, venerated as the “Queen of Poland” and has become the country’s national symbol. Celebrate Mass at the Icon of the Black Madonna, followed by a guided tour of the Shrine by one of the Pauline monks. Free time for prayer, exploration, and lunch on own. Return to Kraków for a group dinner. Overnight in Kraków. DAY 6: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 • AUSCHWITZ | TYNIEC ABBEY Depart for Auschwitz this morning for a tour of the concentration camp. Celebrate Mass at St. Maximilian Kolbe Shrine. Lunch on your own at the Shrine followed by a talk highlighting Divine Mercy in facing the reality of Auschwitz. Then, take time at leisure for prayer. On the way back to Kraków, stop to visit Tyniec Benedictine Abbey, founded in the 11th century, where St. John Paul II often conducted retreats before his consecration as bishop. Afternoon reflection on Divine Mercy at the Abbey. Dinner on your own and overnight in Kraków. DAY 7: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 • SALT MINE | KRAKÓW Depart for Wieliczka for a guided tour of the world-famous salt mine, known for its beautiful and unique underground constructions made of salt, including Biblical icons and a statue of Pope John Paul II carved from salt. Lunch on your own and the reminder of day at leisure. Overnight in Kraków. DAY 8: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 • BASILICA OF DIVINE MERCY This morning, transfer to the Divine Mercy Center in Lagiewniki and start the day by praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. Celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Divine Mercy, which was consecrated by St. John Paul II during his last trip to Poland. Tour the convent and Chapel of the Apparitions and see the tomb of St. Faustina Kowalska with ample to time for prayer and veneration. Then, transfer nearby to the “Have No Fear” John Paul II Center to pray in the Sanctuary of St. John Paul II, a chapel with relics of the former pope, including a vial of his blood. Return to Kraków for group dinner at a local restaurant with traditional folklore show and overnight. DAY 9: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 • ZAKOPANE After breakfast, check out of the hotel and depart for the scenic hills of Zakopane, Poland’s winter Capital nestled in the Tatra’s mountains and a place close to the heart of St. John Paul II, as the mountains were literally the backyard of his house. As a child he hiked and skied along its trails. As a priest and Bishop, he initiated youth activities along the same areas. Upon arrival, celebrate Mass at Fatima Church which was built by the mountaineers in gratitude for the Blessed Mother saving the life of St. John Paul II from the assassination attempt. Experience a funicular ride to the heights to Mt. Gubalowka for a stunning view of the Tatra Mountains and hillsides of Zakopane. Next, take an enthralling ride on the horse carriages through the forest ending at wooden hut with “bigos” (national Polish dish) and sausages on bonfire. This afternoon there will be time for strolling and shopping on Krupowki Street in the local bazaar. Dinner on own and overnight in Zakopane. DAY 10: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 • ZAKOPANE | DUNAJEC RAFTING Start the day by celebrating Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Czstochowa, often called the “old church”. Built in 1847, it is the oldest wooden religious building in Zakopane. Then, depart Zakopane for a raft trip down the Dunajec River through the Pieniny Gorge and along the Polish-Slovak border, which is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Poland. The serene tour begins at the raft wharf in Sromowce Nizne and ends 9-miles later in Szczawnica. The towering cliffs, the gorge’s limestone rock formations, the picturesque mountain scenery, and the colorful river guides make for a wonderful day in a pristine and wild environment. The trip lasts three hours, depending on the water level of the river. The remainder of the afternoon will be at leisure prior to enjoying a farewell dinner at a typical Mountaineers restaurant with traditional music. Overnight in Zakopane. DAY 11: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 • RETURN TO USA Following a spiritually moving journey in the homeland of St. Pope John Paul II, St. Maximillian Kolbe, and St. Faustina Kowalska transfer to the airport for your return flights to the USA. = CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST | = DINNER *Itinerary is tentative and subject to change; specified Masses pending confirmation KRAKOW ZAKOPANE
