RÉGIONS QUÉBEC COPA FLIGHT 160 BBQ FLY-IN BACK ON TRACK TEXT AND PHOTOS BY JEAN-PIERRE BONIN The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Pilots and Hangar Owners As- sociation (APPH-YJN) hosted its traditional BBQ fly-in on August 7, 2021. As many groups started to plan events in August, some out of their normal time frame, COPA Flight 160 was right on schedule for its annual fly-in. Weather forecasts were a factor for some, as visitors came by both air and land, but the meeting was a success with packed tables of people enjoying hot dogs and corn on the cob. A few special planes were on display which had visitors talking about past and future aerial adventures. COPA treasurer Jonathan Beauchesne was on hand to pres- ent APPH President Normand Prenoveau with the 2021 COPA Director’s Award (pictured below, right): “In appreciation for your personal efforts to advance, promote and preserve our Canadian Freedom to Fly.” Now let’s hope APPH will finally Volunteer Gaétan Goudreau helps direct traffic in Saint- be able to host the next COPA Annual General Meeting and Jean-sur-Richelieu. CASARA CONNECTIONS BY BILL DIMMER INTERRUPTING YOUR WEATHER HOW MUCH KNOWLEDGE OF THE WEATHER IS ENOUGH TO SAFELY FLY L ifelong learning is a journey we are all on, some more reluctantly than others. When the opportunity came up to teach PPL ground school modules, which I had not taught before outside of the context of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), the challenge was irresistible. As it turns out, the amount of prepa- ration required to be reasonably sure of correct answers to any potential question is huge. Weather, for example, is an amaz- ing area of study with mountains of data, observations and re- search. Yet, despite all we know, there are virtually infinite vari- ables that make totally accurate predictions impossible. Still, we have access to so much information and sophisticated anal- ysis that we can leave the ground substantially more prepared than early aviators ever could. Okay, now I have to put on my CASARA hat… Why then is ations. SAFETY SERIES BY PETER CAMPBELL PARKING AND STORING MY AIRPLANE UNDERSTANDING YOUR OPTIONS IN THE NEW REALITY I n both our Safety Seminars and in publications, COPA has focused its editorial efforts on our members’ experiences with purchasing and maintaining an aircraft. September’s Pilot Recurrency Training Program seminar will delve into the Canadian Aeronautical Regulations (CARs) that air- craft owners need to be familiar with to ensure airworthiness compliance. The ownership experience is multifaceted and it is rich with different stories, some good and some that are not as pleasant. In nearly every case, there is a good lesson that we can all share and come away more enlightened. In this month’s magazine edition, we want to look at aircraft parking and han- garage or storage.
