ABOUT THE NERF JPL The Junior Premier League (JPL) launched for the 2011/12 season. The original membership of the JPL consisted of a group of large clubs from the Midlands & Southern England who wanted to develop young footballers by employing high standards of coaching and better-quality matches. The JPL is aimed at clubs who want to develop their players through a ‘best with best’ ethos – the NERF JPL is not aimed at single teams looking for a new challenge. The ethos of the league is development before results. Our primary objective is to provide a season of quality and competitive football matches to every team & player within the league. All JPL coaches must be accredited with up-to-date qualifications and CPD. The JPL is committed to continuous development of our coaches, with some more exciting coach development opportunities coming in the new season. The JPL: • Provides a comprehensive football pathway for clubs with teams from u7 to u18. • Proud to partner with NERF (Part of Hasbro International Ltd). STATSports, VEO. Soccer Assist and Puma. • Supported by the Football Association. • Grown from 12 to 320 clubs (over 25,000 players). • Tough club entry criteria - focusing on principles and quality • Promoting a safe, friendly environment in which every player can enjoy their football Key Details Brochure 3
Competitions JPL WARRIORS This is our highest standard girls league aimed at the very best teams in England that currently sit outside of the girls RTC programme. The league includes clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, London Bees, Queens Park Rangers, Watford, West Ham United, AFC Bournemouth and AFC Wimbledon along with a vast array of other girls teams that hit the standards expected to be in this amazing league. Games are played on a Saturday, and all matches are played over 4 periods to allow for coaching input in-line with the professional academy game. All JPL Warriors coaches must be accredited with up-to-date qualifications and CPD. The JPL is committed to continuous development of our coaches and is bringing some more exciting coach development opportunities in the new season. 4 www.juniorpremierleague.com
Competitions CENTRAL VENUE The Central Venue Fixtures (CVF) concept was developed to create an environment where all coaches, players, and parents from Under 7 to Under 10 can come together to learn in a safe environment in one central location. The Junior Premier League offers quality facilities throughout the CVF network, providing a demonstrable football pathway for clubs with age groups from Under 7 to Under 10 within the league demographics. All venues are checked and monitored by the Junior Premier League to ensure that each meets the exceptional standards the league demands. Central Venue games are played on Saturdays throughout the country. Match days are different to traditional leagues, with all games being played over 3 periods (U11s and above games are played over 4 periods). This format allows more coaching points during breaks and reduces the need for coaching from the sideline during play. As a league focused on development of young players, we demand the best and safest environment. In line with FA RESPECT guidance, players are encouraged to play within the laws and spirit of the game, duly supported by coaches of all teams. Key Details Brochure 5
Competitions REGIONAL LEAGUES (U11-U18) The JPL’s regional leagues bring together the best players and teams from across a wider region than traditional grassroots leagues. This means that teams are guaranteed a more competitive game, more often. They also offer a greater variety of experiences, bigger tests and challenges, and the opportunity to progress through competitions to determine national winners. Enabling young players to test themselves on a regular basis against better players and teams is a reality in the Junior Premier League. The JPL asks clubs to provide facilities of the highest standard, providing the appropriate football pathway for clubs with teams with age groups from Under 11 to Under 18. Games are played on Saturdays across the country. Match days are different to traditional leagues, with all games being played over 4 periods This allows more coaching during the breaks as opposed to coaching from the side-line during play. The only exception to the league’s 4-quarter game structure is the cup competitions, where games are played over two halves to provide a different challenge for the players (as they are in professional academy matches). Clubs appoint their own referees (Home team) with the help of their local Referee Appointments Officer or CFA referee development Officer. As a league focused on development of young players, The Junior Premier League demands the best and safest environment. In line with FA RESPECT guidance, players are encouraged to play within the laws and spirit of the game, duly supported by coaches of all teams. 6 www.juniorpremierleague.com
Competitions JPL ONE (U13-U16) JPL One is our largest collection of leagues. It offers 11 vs 11 football for teams with U13 – U16 age groups, with each team playing opposing clubs twice home and away. JPL One will provide a premium experience for clubs, administrators coaches and of course the players as it replicates the professional academy games programme format. After a hugely successful pilot in the 2019/20 season across two regions, the league is now in its third full season. JPL One gives clubs the ability to play like-minded clubs in a fixtures programme that allows two home and two away matches against the same club – aligned to the existing professional football club Academy system in England. JPL One simplifies the organisation of fixtures while helping to develop a ‘one club’ approach. Different age groups within a club will be together more often, travelling to and from JPL matches. JPL One is the pinnacle of the Junior Premier League, and there is a higher standard entry criteria in order to be consider for League. Key Details Brochure 7
Competitions U18 LEAGUES The combination of professional football club academy shadow squads, National League and non-league sides and the best junior clubs, the JPL’s U17/18 leagues launched for the 2020-21 season in the North West, North East, Yorkshire, Midlands, South East and London. Giving players two years at the U17 through U18 age groups allows for a more seamless transition into senior football in a highly competitive yet safe and positive environment which continues to be focused on player development. For the new season, the JPL will have some of the most exciting U17/18 competitions in England. With well-respected and prestigious clubs, attracting the best U16s from the past season, the Junior Premier League will have regional divisions packed with talent, with the season culminating in regional and national Junior Premier League champions and national cup champions. Match days differ from traditional leagues, with games played over 2 or 4 periods, at the discretion of the coaches involved. The four-quarter format allows for more coaching points, as opposed to coaching from the side-lines during play. This adheres to the JPL’s philosophy and ethos of player development and the provision of opportunities and environment for players to flourish. 8 www.juniorpremierleague.com
Route to... NATIONAL COMPETITIONS The Junior Premier League is unique when it comes to our competitions. All regional leagues and cup qualifying groups feed into National Competitions during the season. League winners, cup and shield qualifiers will have the opportunity to progress through the round playing JPL clubs from other regions. Finishing in the top 2 of a cup qualifying group or winning a regional league is a huge achievement. But can you go further? Could you beat the champions of the neighbouring region? Could you make it all the way to National finals in May? Could your team be crowned JPL National League or cup champion? With National pathways from U8-U18 in both league and cup competitions, every JPL player starts the season with the potential to become a JPL national champion. Each season cup and league competitions begin regionally, so the majority of your games will be played within the region you have selected. As you progress through the latter stages of the National League pathway and National cup / shield in Spring, you’ll make new friends and face new challenges against oppo- nents from further afield. For our foundation phase age groups (U8 - U12) there will be regional competitive blocks in winter and spring. National swinter cup & shield competitions will conclude in January. National summer Premier League and Championship League competitions will conclude in May. Finals will be played at JPL selected central venues. Over the course of a season we aim to reflect our league membership with venues being used in the North, Midlands and South. Key Details Brochure 9
