News dlr staff profile Civic Hub update Bob Hannan is a Senior Architect in the Architects’ Department. After graduating with Honours from University College Dublin, he completed postgraduate studies in Urban Design at the University of Rouen France. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Regional and Urban Planning. Before joining dlr in 2001, Bob worked in private practice and has considerable experience in residential, retail and commercial development. dlr times spoke to Bob about his work. What do you do? The Architects’ Department is a busy section in the Council that deals with all areas of the built environment. My work has great variety across a broad range of projects. This has included designing civic buildings such as the Dún Laoghaire Baths, the Council’s Operations Centre in Ballyogan, where the fleet that dealt with Storm Emma is based, and much smaller projects such as the Bathing Shelter and Lifeguard Hut in Sandycove. These days it’s all hands on deck for housing, and I have a range of housing schemes on the board such as Rosemount Court in Dundrum and George’s Place in Dún Laoghaire. Planning and urban design is a significant portion of my work, along with renewal projects like the recently completed project at Monkstown Village. What is your average work day like? It can take months, often years, to bring a project from inception to fruition. They each generate complex issues that need to be worked through and fixed.
