It is the only source of province-wide information on in-school process and the learning environment. In addition to providing planning data for districts and schools, the survey has been used by the Representative for Children and Youth to report on the wellbeing of youth in BC, by the Ministry of Health to support healthy schools initiatives and by other organizations. The survey takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. This is an opportunity for feedback online. Parents of students in Grade 4 are invited to participate. If you are interested, please click here and under the Parent Section, select School District 43 Coquitlam and select school as Bramblewood Elementary to provide your feedback. Please note that the survey is available in approximately 16 languages. This survey will be available for your completion until April 30, 2022. Thank you for your time and valuable feedback.
Student Safety & Supervision The district wide expectation is that at dismissal time students will be picked up by their caregiver. Students who are walking home need to do so right after the dismissal bell. Please keep in mind that we will provide supervision for students waiting to be picked up at the end of the day until 3:00pm. At that time, an announcement will be made to ask students who are still waiting to return to the office where we will help them to contact their parent or caregiver. Parents are free to come back to the playground with their children after 3:30pm when it is less crowded. We want to ensure all the procedures and protocols we follow at school have a positive impact and consequently we need those protocols to be consistent after school as well. We thank you for cooperating with this system, which is designed to make sure that students stay safe and healthy. Thank you to those drivers who have been following the drive through regulations and obeying the signage on Bramble Lane. A reminder that the drive through is just that – a drive through. Drivers need to always remain in their cars. Emergency vehicles need to be able to access the drive through at all times. If you want to meet your child(ren) at their classroom door, please park on the street or the tennis courts. Counselling Corner February brings Valentine’s Day, Random Acts of Kindness and Pink Shirt Day, reminders to treat each other and ourselves with care and empathy. We are continuously encouraging our students to follow the golden rule, to treat others the way they wish to be treated. Ultimately we want to create a culture of kindness, empathy and community and we do this through modeling and stories. A lovely story I like to share with students is Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller. The girl in the story wishes to learn what it means to be kind and learns how kindness spreads through our interactions with others and can create a community of kindness. A fun and simple activity to do with your child each day or week is to share with each other an act of kindness that was experienced or seen and talk about how that felt for them and those involved. This could be during a meal, at bedtime or even during a car ride, really anytime there is a chance to connect. Learning to recognize how they feel when they see, or experience kindness and recognize how it makes others feel helps to build empathy in our kids. Literacy Family Love you by Heart by Peter H. Reynolds This sweet story is a celebration of unconditional love with a delightful and poetic tribute to the rare and beautiful love that binds us together. From the intimate and unbridled love parents and caregivers have for their little ones, to the tremendous love of a lifelong friendship, and the boundless love of a grandparent -- this is a heartfelt message to share with the people we cherish; like a song we have known all our lives, we love them by heart. Sweet, simple, rhyming text. Numeracy Activity Hopscotch Math Set up a hopscotch grid with a calculator layout. With older kids, you can include the square root symbol and negative integer sign. Kids can first hop on one number, then an operation, another number, the equal sign, and finally the answer. For double-digit answers, kids can split their last hop so that their left foot lands on the digit in the 10s place and their right foot lands on the digit in the ones place. You can challenge them to see how fast they can hop!
Student Absences / Lates / Student Dismissals IMPORTANT: For your child’s safety, we are required to check attendance and place safe arrival telephone calls prior to 10 am. Please assist us by advising if your child will be absent, late or require early dismissal from school. You can do that one of three ways: Submit an online “Absence Report” found on Bramblewood website + under quick links. Absent Report link *Preferred method* Call the school at 604-552-0313 or Email: bramblewood@sd43.bc.ca Thanks for keeping us informed at school! Winter Weather Schools are not routinely closed due to snow or other inclement weather conditions. All schools in School District 43 (Coquitlam) will remain OPEN, if possible, during winter weather, including snowfall. However, on occasion, a district-wide or partial-district closure is required due to extreme weather. Partial-district closures affecting individual schools may occur due to the very different geography within our school district. If there is a partial-district closure affected schools will be identified. The decision on schools remaining open or needing to be closed, because of extreme weather, occurs before 6:30 a.m. so that families can plan and make alternate arrangements. Any district-wide or partial-district closure will be decided and communicated by 6:30 a.m. via the School District 43 website www.sd43.bc.ca and CKNW AM 980 radio, CKWX 1130 radio and CBC (690) radio. Extreme weather can also impact transit. Transit schedules may face significant changes or cancellations due to the weather conditions. Parents seeking information on transit schedules need to consult the Translink website: http://www.translink.ca/ We encourage families to continuously check the School District 43 website for updates and changes: www.sd43.bc.ca Learn more about SD43’s process for emergency and inclement weather status updates at: http://www.sd43.bc.ca/NewsEvents/Pages/EmergencyInformation.aspx
