CAPTAIN’S CORNER JACK EDWARDS We get a break from league action this evening as we face St Ives Town for the right to travel to National League giants Wrexham in the next round of the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday. It’s a great carrot for both sets of players - places like The Racecourse Ground are where you want to be stepping out in competitions like these, even if sadly there will be no fans present. It has been so disappointing that you have not been able to share in our good run with us - I’m pretty sure with all the late goals there would have been some pitch invasions - not that I condone them, you understand! Of course, I am getting ahead of myself a little, as if we want to face the Red Dragons (I don’t know whether you’re aware, but Joe Clarke won the FA Trophy with them!) we have to avoid complacency this evening when facing St Ives. Facing a lower ranked team in a cup competition absolutely does not guarantee you progression to the next round. My former Brakes team mate Nathan Hicks, who will be on the opposing side this evening, is as much evidence as we need on that front, having been part of the Stamford side that knocked us out of the FA Cup a few years back. We have suffered enough upsets to know that we have to be on top of our game throughout tonight if we are to get through. Enjoy the game, have a fantastic Christmas and fingers crossed we will see you over Christmas!
