President’s Welcome A warm welcome to all our members and especially newer members who have recently joined Bowls Taradale. Your Club, although only 25 years old, has a well-earned reputation as being friendly and popular among its members and with visitors alike. It was in September 2007 that Bowls Taradale won the club of the year award at Bowls New Zealand’s annual function in Auckland. As President Wilma Ennor said at the time, it was a reflection of the governance and work done in promoting youngsters into the sport. In that winter of 2007, membership increased to 196 members and, as Wilma said, we’ve got good members and we are a really neat club. I like those words, and we can do well to build this “really neat club “even further. It’s a realistic opportunity for all our members to come and share time together and participate in the programme your committee prepares for your enjoyment. As past president Warren Whyte noted in his welcome message last year, we now have a much larger and drier area to socialise in with the new canopy and concreted area in place. These improvements and voluntary works on gardens and seating makes our greens and surrounding areas more appealing for bowling and having fun as a club. A key goal for our new club year is greater participation by members in our programmes. We rely heavily on your support through the Friday Triples and I would urge you all to come on this important club day. As always, please make new members welcome and include them in teams for them to feel part of our future together. Your committee this year is an interesting balance of experience and new members. There is an enthusiastic feeling about this team, and we look forward to what’s ahead. Enjoy your bowls and every success to you all. Ken Gilligan BOWLS TARADALE....3
