Stockport is attracting new visitors At Redrock, family dining, drinking, leisure and entertainment is thriving: The Light cinema has already added two new screens and is still the group’s best performing site in the UK; the evening economy is continuing to expand and has recently resulted in Stockport being awarded Purple Flag status – see page 7. Stockport Market Place is buzzing! Home now to a fantastic, growing range of bars and restaurants, more new announcements are due soon! Let’s take a look back at 2019 Proud to support community events Totally Stockport continues to support organisers across a variety of events who are also working to showcase all that our great town centre has to offer including the ever popular monthly Foodie Friday; the annual Classic Car Show held in the Market Place; Stockport Beer Week; Stockport Pride; Emergency Services Day. This year Totally Stockport were pleased to support Mercury Climbing’s inaugural event – 8 days of music, movies and comedy in the heart of Stockport. And last September Totally Stockport added the Frog Dash to the annual 10K and Family Fun Run organised by Life Leisure, an event that attracts vast numbers each year. Totally Stockport – delivering more in Stockport in 2019 Totally Stockport’s free Wi-Fi across the town centre continues to improve the visitor experience for over 18,000 current registered users but perhaps more importantly provides valuable, anonymous data enabling us to record the number of visitors – new and returning; where they went and how long they stayed. When we put on an event we now know how many people came – either for the first time or returning, how long they stayed and where they went. We can now measure success!
In 2019, three main events took place: • Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail • 3 day Food and Drink Festival • Christmas 2019 Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail The main project in 2019 was Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail – the biggest event Stockport has ever seen and driving unprecedented footfall across the town centre with huge numbers visiting throughout the summer months. In case you missed them, 19 fabulous, colourful giant frogs hopped onto their lily pads creating Stockport’s first ever giant art trail which ran from June 29th to September 28th. Stockport’s Giant Leap Frog Art Trail – changing perceptions! A fantastic, engaging, interactive event involving local businesses, residents, employees, visitors and community groups – absolutely anyone and everyone – with immense social and economic impact - while showing off all the great changes that are taking place in Stockport.

3-day Food & Drink Festival tasty T O TA L LY S T O C K P O R T 6th – 8th September 2019 Food & Celebrating all things delicious in Stockport Visitors were treated to three days Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer entertained Drink of tasty treats and tempting delights with his cookery demonstrations while from over 70 traders, from jams to Mr Bloom and his band was a big hit jerks, burgers to bagels, chipolatas to with the younger visitors on Sunday. Stockport receives Purple Flag accreditation The work of the team from Stockport’s Business Improvement District – Totally Stockport – has been acknowledged in the assessors’ report that resulted in Stockport town centre being awarded Purple Flag status. Working in partnership with Stockport Council, Stockport is only the second town in Greater Manchester to receive the coveted award. Totally Stockport’s contribution has resulted in Stockport town centre offering a safer and more secure environment for visitors and businesses who are enjoying an ever evolving evening / night-time economy. Towns and cities awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for their vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents. Totally Stockport’s Chairman Mike Lamont and Councillor David Mellor collected the award at a ceremony later in 2019.
