Berkshire School Games 2013 Primary Entry requirements (Timings are may be subject to change)
KEY STEPS GYMNASTICS EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: School years 1 – 6 (See below for separate competition categories) Date: 2rd July Time: 12.30pm-4.00pm Venue: Pinewood Gymnastics Club, Old Wokingham Rd, Wokingham, RG40 3AQ KEY INFORMATION Team size: Teams of 3 or 4 gymnasts per category (The top 3 scores will contribute to an overall team score) Categories: Key Steps Level 1 (School years 1/2) School Based Key Steps Level 2 (School years 3/4) School Based Key Steps Level 3 (School years 5/6) School Based Gender: Mixed – no gender restrictions. Eligibility: School based gymnasts – Must be doing less than 2 hours of recreational gymnastics a week (can be in a club or school environment) Basic Rules/Format: Further information and rules available from your SGO Gymnasts complete set routines in conjunction with their key steps level / age group COMPETITION DELIVERY Competition Lead: Stuart Woods Head of Coaching Pinewood Gymnastics Club
KWIK CRICKET EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: Year 5/6 Mixed teams and Yr 6 girls teams. Date: 2nd July Time: 10.30am-4.00pm Venue: Wellington College, Pitches, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU KEY INFORMATION Team size: Maximum Squad size 12 Min 8 8 players on pitch at any one time Gender: - Mixed event – no specific restrictions. A boys only team IS acceptable, however girls are equally permitted. - Girls only event – MUST be a team of girls only. Eligibility: No restrictions beyond the age and gender margins outlined above Basic Rules/Format: - 2 wickets, 16 yards apart. - One 8 over innings per team - Batting side should be split into 4 pairs, with each pair batting for 2 overs each - Each team starts with 200 runs. When a batter is out, 5 points is deducted and the next ball is faced by the other batter of the pair. - A batter can be given out, bowled, caught, run out, stumped or hit wicket. There are no LBWs unless the batter deliberately blocks the ball with a leg or foot. - 2 points will be awarded for each wide or no ball but no extra ball will be bowled except in the final over. QUADKIDS ATHLETICS EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: School years 5 / 6 Date: 2nd July Time: 10.30am-1.00pm Venue: Wellington College, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU KEY INFORMATION Team size: 10 Gender: Mixed – 5 boys and 5 girls Eligibility: No restrictions beyond age and gender criteria above. Basic Rules/Format: All athletes will participate in the same 4 events and accrue points for themselves and their team corresponding to their performance (time / distance). Events: Standing Long Jump, Vortex Howler Throw, 75m Sprint 600m Run The top 8 individuals from each team only (4 boys and 4 girls) will contribute to an overall team score. MINI TENNIS EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: School years 3/4 Date: 2nd July Time: 10.30am-1.00pm Venue: Wellington College, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU KEY INFORMATION Team size: 8 participants in each team Gender: Mixed – 4 boys and 4 girls Basic Rules/Format: - Court dimensions – 11m x 5.5m. Net height – 80cm - Matches will be played in a tiebreak format with simple scoring (1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 etc). Matches will either be first to 10 with sudden death at 9-9 or will be timed (i.e. 5 minutes). - Players should be seeded 1-8 strictly by ability & irrespective of gender. - Each seed will play matches against opponents of corresponding seed (i.e seed 1 vs seed 1, 2 vs 2, 3 vs 3 etc) - Upon winning a match players will be awarded a point for their team. - The ball may bounce once only and must land within the confines of the court. The ball may not bounce before crossing the net to the opponent’s side. - Serves may be made overarm or underarm from the back of the court. The ball must travel diagonally and land within the service box and the serve must be made without letting the ball bounce first. - ‘Mini tennis red’ balls will be used, and rackets no longer than 23” will be permitted. BOCCIA EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: Primary School years – no restrictions Date: 2ND July Time: 10.30-1.30pm Venue: Wellington College, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU KEY INFORMATION Team size: Team of 3 Gender: Mixed – no specific gender restrictions, can be all boys or all girls Eligibility: Key Stage 2 – Physical Disability ONLY from Mainstream or Special Schools Basic Rules/Format: - A ball can be propelled by rolling, throwing or kicking. - If a player is unable to throw or kick it, they can use a ‘ramp’ (assistive device). - If they are unable to release the ball with their hands players can use a head pointer. - All players must be seated during the game. - Singles and pair matches are four ends and team matches are six ends. - One point is awarded for every ball of the same colour, which is closest to the jack. TRI GOLF EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: School years 3/4 Date: 2ND July Time: 1.00pm-3.30pm Venue: Wellington College, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU KEY INFORMATION Team size: 10 Gender: Mixed – 5 boys and 5 girls Basic Format: - Tri Golf festival format - Teams will rotate around 8 fun and innovative golfing challenges. - Using standard Tri-golf equipment players will have approximately 2 minutes to practice each challenge followed by approximately 5 minutes to score as many points as possible. ORIENTEERING EVENT DETAILS Age Categories: School years 5/6 Date: 2ND July Time: 1.30pm-4.00pm Venue: Wellington College, Dukes Ride, Crowthorne, RG45 7PU KEY INFORMATION Team size: 12 Gender: Minimum of 4 boys or 4 girls within a team Basic Format: - 1 timed circuit using emit timing - Children work in pairs COMPETITION DELIVERY Competition Lead: Denise Harper Berkshire Orienteers
