BEM: General Informations § The Bachelor in Music Teaching is aimed at students who are passionate about music and wish to teach in a formal (e.g., conservatoires, music school) or non-formal (e.g., childcare, elderly home) educational context in Luxembourg or beyond. § The Bachelor in Music Education (BEM) is a 3-year program of study. The normal duration of studies is 6 semesters with 30 ECTS for each semester (including 1 mandatory semester of mobility). This program leads to a degree of "Bachelor en Enseignement Musical" delivered by the University of Luxembourg. § The Bachelor in Music Teaching is organized in collaboration with the Conservatoire de Musique de la Ville d'Esch-sur-Alzette, the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg and the Conservatoire de Musique du Nord. § The University provides the training in musicology and music pedagogy (120 ECTS). The Conservatories will be in charge of the musical and instrumental training (60 ECTS).
BEM: Professional outlook The program prepares students for formal and non-formal music education. The BEM will enable future graduates to: § apply for positions in public and private music education (conservatories, regional and local music schools, private music schools); § to work in the non-formal education sector (day care centers, nursing homes, retirement homes, penitentiary centers, day care centers, refugee homes, sheltered workshops, ...) § to subsequently enroll in a master's program.
BEM: Curriculum Structure At BEM there is an alternation between different modes of learning, including approaches centered on: § teachers (e.g. lectures) § student co-construction of knowledge (e.g. seminars, tutorials) § independent work (e.g. individual courses); § pedagogical projects (with tutorials); § internships (with tutorials); § professional development portfolio; § online activities. The University provides the training in musicology and music pedagogy (120 ECTS). The Conservatories will be in charge of musical and instrumental training (60 ECTS).
BEM: Specialization From the beginning the student chooses a specialization: § Instrumental or vocal courses § Musical training (formation musical, solfège) § Early childhood music education (éveil musical) Depending on the choice of specialization, the content of the courses offered by the conservatories as well as the conditions of admission to the program of study differ.
BEM: General admission requirements The BEM has a capacity of 25 places per study year. General admission requirements: § Candidates must hold a Luxembourg secondary school diploma or a foreign diploma, recognised as equivalent by the MENJE, at the time of admission; § Proficiency in language: English (C1) § Drafting of a letter of motivation § Interview
BEM: Admission - Covering letter Content of the covering letter: § CV (max. 225 words) § Musical experiences (max. 400 words): Please describe personal highlights in the field of music (e.g. competitions, important events, extraordinary concerts, compositions, personal experiences, significant encounters, ...). § Educational experiences (max. 400 words): If applicable, please describe your personal experiences in the world of formal or non-formal education, in the field of music or otherwise (e.g. scout instructor, workshop leader, camp counsellor, teacher, children's choir, ...). § Motivation (max. 400 words): Please describe the three main reasons why you choose to become a teacher and what makes you feel capable of teaching music (personal skills, role model, encouragement, ...). § Professional perspectives (max. 400 words): Please describe your desired career path in music teaching, which branch(s) you would like to teach, in which context (music school, kindergarten, public school, ...), which audience (children, youth, adults, ...), ... ?
BEM: Specific admission requirements § Instrumental or vocal programme Diploma «1er Prix» for instrument/vocals (min. 50/60 points) In the absence of the required diploma: Audition, written test in general music theory and listening (dictation) § Musical training (solfeggio) Diploma «1er Prix formation musicale - solfège» (min. 50/60 points) and diploma «2e cycle» Piano In the absence of the required diploma: Audition piano, written test in general musical theory and listening (dictation) § Early childhood music education (éveil musical) «Certificat de la division moyenne spécialisée » (min. 50/60 points) and diploma «2e cycle» accompaniment instrument. In the absence of the required diploma: Audition instrument, written test in general music theory and listening (dictation)

BEM: Mobility (Erasmus) § Every UL student is obliged to spend at least one semester at a partner university abroad. (Law of 27 June 2018, article 36, paragraph 6) § At BEM, mobility takes place in semester 5. The mobility includes academic modules and music courses.
