At its core, police work is a human behavior profession. Your job is to successfully assess the emotional and physical state of a person. Are they dangerous? Are they in need? Are they emotionally or physically in crisis. Are they perpetrators or victims? And you have to do this all in the blink of an eye. The only way to accomplish that is to become a master at controlling, redirecting and influencing other people’s behavior which begins with Reading People. This one-day seminar will teach officers how to better evaluate body language by accurately reading conscious and unconscious cues, spotting lies and detecting true deception.

August 2021 Professionals - SAFVIC for TCPs (TCOLE Course 3267) is designed to provide 911 call- takers around the state with the tools they need to effectively identify and facilitate sexual assault and family violence calls. The SAFVIC program is funded by a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office and the National Violence Against Women Office. This program is administered by the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) with input from a statewide steering committee comprised of representatives from telecommunications, law enforcement, prosecution, medical services and victim services. In 2008, SAFVIC for TCPs was developed in an effort to expand the training to Telecommunication Professionals who are often the vital link between the victim and the responding police officers. The SAFVIC for Telecommunication Professionals program consists of a comprehensive 8- hour curriculum covering crucial aspects of telecommunication professionals’ response to these calls. The program uses a network of certified instructors to deliver the training on a local basis, thus providing more telecommunication professionals access to this very important training. Students attending the SAFVIC for TCPs will receive 8 hours TCOLE credit for the course and is offered free of charge to all participants. THE CURRICULUM Students attending the SAFVIC for TCPs Instructor Course will receive 8-hours TCOLE credit for the course. The curriculum will include the following topics: Dynamics of Family Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Special Consideration when Taking Calls From Members of Vulnerable Populations Understanding Victims & Safety Planning and Protective Orders How 911 Calls are used in Prosecution of Crimes Best Practices REGISTRATION To register for SAFVIC please go to the SAFVIC website at www.safvic.org, click on ‘Register’ on the top right, select the course with the date and location of your choice, and then click on the blue ‘Register’ button. The SAFVIC Program recognizes the need for training to combat human trafficking, create awareness, assist victims, and provide officers with better tools for handling such calls. The SAFVIC – Human Trafficking Course (TCOLE Course 3268) is designed to provide law enforcement officers around the state with the tools they need to effectively recognize, respond to, and investigate human trafficking. The SAFVIC – Human Trafficking course is funded by a grant from the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office and the National Violence Against Women Office. This program is administered by the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) with input from a statewide steering committee comprised of representatives from law enforcement, prosecution, victim services, and academia. The SAFVIC – Human Trafficking consists of a comprehensive curriculum covering crucial aspects related to law enforcement’s response to human trafficking, as well as the use of community-based resources to assist law enforcement’s efforts. The program utilizes a network of certified instructors to deliver the training on a local basis, thus enabling more officers to take part in this very important training. Texas Peace Officers who successfully complete the SAFVIC – Human Trafficking course will receive 8 hours TCOLE credit. This course is an alternative to the TCOLE Human Trafficking mandate and satisfies both Human Trafficking (3270) and Advanced Human Trafficking (3271).
