August 13, 2021 Call for Artists RISE Community Health Centre Mural Project (Contract) Contract Overview: RISE Community Health Centre (CHC) strives to meet the community’s vision of being a welcoming, colourful, inclusive space for healing that is enhanced by artwork. RISE CHC is a part of Collingwood Neighbourhood House (CNH) Society. CNH will contract artist(s) to design and paint murals in the hallways of RISE CHC at 5198 Joyce Street, Vancouver BC, V5R 4H1. CNH has a simultaneous Indigenous Artist Call for two pillars at RISE CHC. Applicants are welcome to apply for both calls as appropriate. Background: RISE CHC was designed through two years of community engagement about the health needs, supportive environments and ideal models for health service delivery in Renfrew-Collingwood. RISE provides primary health care, health promotion and harm reduction services, delivered by a diverse team of health professionals. The acronym RISE stands for Resilient Integrative Socially Just and Equitable, which are its core values and principles. For more information about RISE see www.cnh.bc.ca/rise. In 2019 the Renfrew-Collingwood community provided input about the preferred look and feel for RISE CHC. A variety of images and colour schemes were presented during the consultation. Sunshine yellow was voted on as the most popular colour choice and was subsequently incorporated into the branding and design for RISE. Some of the existing artwork at RISE is shown below: RISE waiting room mural and reception art by Andrew McGuire Geometric nature in exam rooms During the consultations, water was mentioned as an important natural element to include in RISE’s imagery, and this artist call provides an opportunity to highlight this element. A variety of images were shown to community members during consultations, and the two of the most popular images are shown below as additional inspiration.
