A WORD FROM THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE Welcome to the 37th edition of the Esprit Triathlon. It is with great pleasure that we welcome you on September 10th , 11th and 12th 2021 to Parc Jean-Drapeau for a weekend filled with activities and personal achievements for you all to enjoy. With an average of 3500 participants taking part in the Esprit each year, our world class organization and race venue is well known in the triathlon community. During our 37-year history, the Esprit has developed one of the best athlete experiences in the sport of triathlon. As we look back on the 2020 edition, which was marked by last-minute restrictions due to COVID preventive measures, we feel extremely grateful and proud that we were able to organize one of the only major triathlon events in Canada. With the cooperation of all our athletes and volunteers we demonstrated that it was possible to organize a safe and secure event which complied with all the public health requirements. Our team has worked tirelessly to offer you a high-quality event that will meet all of the government health standards. Although the mandatory COVID-19 rules are constantly changing and new measures may be imposed before the event, we have prepared this Athlete Guide to provide you with information on what the event will look like based on the current COVID prevention rules. All decisions surrounding the event will be guided by Quebec’s Progressive Regional Alert and intervention system for COVID-19 available here: https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/progressive-regional-alert-and-intervention-system/ The Esprit abides by all health protocols for the protection and security of all athletes and volunteers. Because of these protocols, we may not be able to provide many of the services we usually offer our participants. This Athletes’ Guide outlines the services that can be offered according to today’s COVID-19 prevention measures. Should these measures change, we will upgrade this Guide accordingly. To help you understand the measures that are subject to change, we have included this symbol in the relevant section of the Athlete Guide. Please know that the safety of our participants is our top priority, and we will do everything possible to ensure compliance with health standards and the safety of our participants and volunteers. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at: info@esprittriathlon.com Thank you and have a good race! The Organizing Committee

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THE EVENT VACCINATION PASSPORT As of September 1, the government of Quebec will put in place a vaccination passport that will apply to sporting events of more than 50 people. As a result, when you pick up your participant’s kit, you will have to show your proof of vaccination through the VaxiCode app or any other form permitted by the government (including the printed version of the QR Code). You will also need to show a government issued photo ID to validate your identity. Because they cannot use the VaxiCode app, participants residing outside of the province of Quebec can show any type vaccination proof and a piece of ID. Once your vaccination passport has been validated, we will give you a bracelet that will allow you to access certain areas for participants only on the day of the event without having to revalidate your vaccination passport every time. Spectators wanting to access certain designated spectator areas (i.e: bleachers, expo area/start area) must also present their vaccination proof and ID in order to have access to the designated spectator areas. Spectators will also receive a bracelet once their vaccination proof will have been verified and the bracelet will allow the spectators to go in and out of each designated spectator area without re-validating their vaccination passport every time they enter a designated area. Please note that an adaptation period is planned from September 1 to 15, during which the vaccination passport will be deployed, without however any sanction being applied. REFUNDS & CANCELLATION In keeping with its practices from previous years, the Esprit Triathlon offers you one of the best cancellation and refund policies in the sport of Triathlon. Prior to August 31, 2021, any participant can request a 75% refund on an entry fee, for any reason. Online registration fees from Events.com cannot be refunded as part of this policy, but Triathlon Quebec fees will be refunded. To obtain a refund, please email your request to: info@esprittriathlon.com. After August 31, 2021, no refunds will be accepted. Should the event be cancelled by the organizing committee due to COVID restrictions, the Esprit Triathlon will reimburse 100% of the entry fee to any participant who did not request a reimbursement prior to August 31, 2020. Online registration fees from Events.com cannot be refunded as part of this policy, but Triathlon Quebec fees will be refunded. SCHEDULE The various races will be held over three (3) consecutive days from Friday, September 10th to Sunday, September 12th 2021 in accordance with the following daily schedule. SWIM START The “rolling wave start” worked extremely well in 2020. This eliminated the mass swim start that was a safety concern for many participants. In keeping with the 2 m social distancing rule, we will continue the rolling wave starts for all events. Each wave will have a maximum of 250 participants and participants will start 6 people at the time every 15 seconds.Upon registration, participants will be asked to provide an approximate finish time to complete their event. Waves will no longer be determined by gender or age group but according to the participant’s approximate finish time. Your official start time and start wave will be shared with you in the first week of September after the closing of the online registration. SPECTATORS Depending on the COVID-19 Alert level in place during the event (ie, green , yellow , orange , red ) there may be restrictions on the number of spectators allowed to attend the event. Participants should consider the possibility that spectators may not be allowed to attend the event or that the number of spectators will be limited prior to registering for the event. Participants who have a particular need for support can contact the Esprit Triathlon at info@esprittriathlon.com in order to obtain an exception to the rule if their needs justifies it (handicap or minors). The Esprit Triathlon will give these spectators a special bracelet giving the right to limited areas of the venue. As of August 20th 2021, we expect that spectators will be allowed to access the venue but the number of spectators in certain high traffic areas will be limited according to the space available. At this time, only the finish line bleachers and a small section of the swim start area will be accessible to spectators and the number of spectators allowed will be limited to 250 people in the bleachers and 160 people at the swim start. Spectators will be allowed to access these zones on a first come first serve basis. Please note other areas around the course such as the bike course and run course will not have any restrictions on the number of spectators but spectators will be encouraged to respect all applicable rules around COVID prevention measures. T-SHIRTS AND FINISHER MEDALS In accordance with Triathlon Quebec COVID -19 recommendations, the Esprit Triathlon will not be offering finisher t-shirts and Race Medals. 2021 ATHLETE GUIDE - MONTREAL ESPRIT • TRIATHLON • ESPRIT DE MONTRÉAL 4

Waves will no longer be determined by gender or age group but according to the participant’s approximate finish time. Your official start time and start wave will be shared with you in the first week of September after the closing of the online registration. Athletes will start 6 people at a time every 15 seconds until all participants of the wave in question have started. A starting mat will be installed in the sand and your official time will not start until you have crossed this mat. Volunteers will give you instructions before each start. A clock with the official time will also be placed at the start and will count down between each 15 second start. Swim start officials may, from time to time and for operational reasons, skip a start if all participants are not ready. If this happens, do not panic, your official time will start only when you have crossed the starting mat. DUATHLON AND 5km/10km RACES START PROCEDURE The start of the Duathlon and 5/10km Running Events will take place in the same area as the swim start. The Duathlon will be an individual time-trial start with participants starting every 15 seconds. You must wear your mask until the volunteers tell you it is OK to remove it. You may keep your mask or throw it away at the start. SWIMMING The Esprit Triathlon has a fantastic team of lifeguards. Our primary goal is to keep you safe in the water. Here are some recommendations for the swim segment: Silver bathing caps will be given to athletes who feel they need extra help for the swimming portion. These swim caps allow lifeguards to identify athletes who may need extra attention. The swim caps will be given at registration and at the swim start. Do not hesitate to ask a volunteer for a silver swim cap in the start area. Once in the water, if you are having difficulty swimming, call a lifeguard on a kayak to help you. You are allowed to rest by holding onto the kayak, but the lifeguard cannot transport you through the water. If you are unable to complete the swim segment, a lifeguard will take you back to the swim exit and you can complete the bike and run if the lifeguard determines that it is safe for you to do so. If this happens, you will be officially disqualified from the race for not having completed the swim course, but we will let you complete your triathlon!
