Artissima 26 Edition 2019 Talks, Book Presentations and Appointments at the Fair The programme of Artissima 2019 Meeting Point by La Stampa and Book Corner by Librerie Corraini Walkie Talkies by Lauretana and the guided tours promoted by the partners of the fair ARTISSIMA – International Fair of Contemporary Art Oval, Torino 31 October 2019 | Press presentation, preview, opening 1–2–3 November 2019 | Open to the public Artissima offers a rich calendar of meetings dedicated to the public: the Meeting Point by La Stampa is a special area of the fair set aside for the presentation of projects, research, events and debates, curated this year by Anna Daneri, independent curator; whereas the Book Corner, coordinated by Librerie Corraini, is dedicated to the presentation of publications. Furthermore Artissima offers two successful appointments dedicated to the public: Walkie Talkies by Lauretana, informal conversations throughout the fair, and 6 new guided tours promoted by 6 partners of the fair. MEETING POINT BY LA STAMPA A special area of the fair hosted by La Stampa is set aside for conversations and debates, as well as presentations of projects, research, and events, presented by museums, institutions and other key-players on the art scene: a unique opportunity to meet and discuss with some leading figures in the international art scene. Titled Desire and Censorship, the guiding theme of the 26th edition of Artissima, the programme of conversations coordinated this year by Anna Daneri, focusses on the various interpretations of this dichotomy in contemporary artistic thought. Starting with the etymology traced from the Latin de sidere, literally “from the stars”, in the sense of “to await what the stars will bring”, the term Desire, according to the Enciclopedia Treccani, “alludes more to the distance between the subject and the object of desire, and to the movement of the spirit that connects them, than to the nature of the object itself”. A distance that the external act of control and repression, embodied by the function of Censorship, makes even more unfathomable. In a certain sense, the two terms presuppose each other: desire cannot exist without a more or less explicit sense of limitation, while censorship cannot exist without the subversive thrust of a desire that transcends it. Artists, curators, collectors and experts on various disciplines have been invited to discuss this opposition, presenting their research, thoughts and studies to the audience. The programme will be an opportunity to meet some of the protagonists of events taking place around the city during the period of Artissima, and to explore some of the artistic projects presented in the context of the curated sections of the fair and the collateral events. There will also be a focus on the Hub Middle East. Space design Meeting Point: Artek Space design Meeting Point Press Lounge: Vitra

NEW GUIDED TOUR PROMOTED BY THE PARTNERS OF THE FAIR Artissima presents the programme of guided visits in 2019, offered to the general public to discover the fair in a personal, engaging way, starting with the special projects organized by various partners of the fair. Six itineraries per day concentrating on different themes from which visitors can choose, based on their own interests and curiosities. The collaboration continues with the professionals in the field of cultural mediation of Arteco, an association active in historical- artistic research, contemporary production and education. The guided visits reflect the intention of Artissima to develop timely and heterogeneous reflections on the themes the various partners have decided to emphasize in their adventure in the world of contemporary art. The works offer new perspectives, utopian visions, but also dramatic images capable of narrating the times in which we live, opening up novel interpretations of today’s society. The six itineraries start from different areas, each on a specific project, to then discover the fair by concentrating on the key themes investigated by each partner. Guided by the mediators, participants have a chance to identify the most experimental trends thanks to new tools of interpretation of the overall panorama of contemporary art. Paths and themes The guided visits represent an important tool for comprehension of a contemporary art fair, its dynamics, its players, the work of the galleries and the artists, observing the works in the various sections. The thematic thread of the paths is the ingredient that transforms visits into exciting journeys, unique opportunities for deeper cultural engagement. Booking: segreteria@artissima.it or at the Info Point at the fair. The tours offered every day, from Friday to Sunday, are as follows: 1pm ABOUT ARTISSIMA Powered by UniCredit Artissima 2019, supported for 17 years by the main partner UniCredit, is an experimental fair with an accent on research. How has the fair changed? Who are the protagonists (collectors, artists, gallerists, curators, critics and journalists) and what are the mechanisms of selection of galleries and works of art? How does the art market function and who decides on prices and values? How can you get information about the price of a work? Starting point: UniCredit Art Advisory booth 2pm MADE IN ITALY Powered by Treccani The project Alfabeto Treccani, a series of 21 original limited-edition multiples made by Italian artists, thanks to the dialogue between Artissima and Treccani, becomes the starting point for a walk in which to discover the works of young Italian talents, in a dialogue with some of the historic, iconic figures of Italian art. The “alphabet of artists” is the plot in which to investigate the connection between the contemporary art of our country and the artistic tradition of the past, the specificities of artistic research in Italy and its position in the international art system. Starting point: Alfabeto Treccani booth 3pm ART FOR THE FUTURE Powered by FPT INDUSTRIAL Starting with the work CONSIDER YOURSELF AS A GUEST (Cornucopia) by Christian Holstad – a large cornucopia made entirely with plastic waste – produced by FPT Industrial for the 58th Venice Biennale, the visit itinerary concentrates on artistic research with a focus on environmental issues, sustainable growth, protection of biodiversity, adaptation to climate change. Visual narratives about our ecosystem and its transformations, through languages, tools and materials used by contemporary artists to narrate and analyse a world in transformation. Starting point: Cornucopia (outside the pavilion)
4pm COLLECTIVE RULES Powered by Juventus Artissima Junior, the result of collaboration between Artissima and Juventus, reaches its second edition. Starting from the project for 2019 SOPRA SOPRA coordinated by the young artists Valentina Ornaghi (Milano, 1986) and Claudio Prestinari (Milano, 1984), which through a game of teamwork with precise rules leads children in the creation of a cooperative installation, the guided tour examines the idea of “relational” art based on interaction between artist and audience. The works narrate different ways of approaching intersubjectivity, from aesthetic practices conceived for urban space to the involvement of viewers in apparently banal actions. In the works analysed, participation can be understood as the catalyst of processes that become a mirror of social transformations in the contemporary world. Starting point: Artissima Junior 5pm TALENT ROAD SHOW Powered by Jaguar JaguArt, the special project created thanks to collaboration between Artissima and Jaguar Land Rover, begins in December and will involve 10 Italian cities in a true road show for the discovery of new talents. The JaguArt booth welcomes the public, narrating the themes and objectives of a project that will make a tour of Italy. The parallels between this initiative and the efforts of the fair in the continuing discovery of young artists and their research generate a walk that focuses on emerging contemporary art, addressing themes like digital production as opposed to craftsmanship, documentary reality as opposed to virtual imagery, as well as the body and its transformations. International visions and the focus on changes in our country emerge in the works of young artists. Starting point: Stand JaguArt 6pm PERFORMATIVE VISIONS Powered by Franco Curletto The suspended space of the fair, at this edition, becomes a “creative bubble” where Franco Curletto, a renowned hairstylist in the worlds of fashion, cinema and art, works together with his theme on the hair concepts for the irreverent performances of Tomaso Binga (Salerno, 1931). The space is the physical and conceptual starting point for a visit that examines works in which media become languages, and actions do not represent, but define or establish. An investigation of the history of performance art, from the body to the image, amidst censorship, communication and dissemination. Starting point: access staircase to the VIP Lounge
