April/May/June 2018 Volume 52 PENINSULA PUBLIC LIBRARY From the Board of Trustees: Proposed 2018-2019 Budget While the Peninsula Public Library continues to plan and prepare for the construction of a beautiful new library and community center that will serve the growing and di- verse needs of our district for many years to come, we re- main dedicated at the same time to providing the best pos- sible library experience for our patrons in a cost-effective manner and are constantly looking for new ways to enhance our programs, services and materials. We accomplished a great deal this past year considering the limitations of our present facilities and resources. The library offered more than 500 programs which were attended by almost 15,000 people. We added around 24,000 items to our collection and consistently ranked as the second most heavily utilized library in all of Nassau County with an annual circulation of approximately 320,000 books and other materials. In addition, the library can now print passes on demand for some of our museums so there is no need to come in to pick up or return these passes. We also brought in vending machines with snacks and drinks for the convenience of our patrons and installed new security cameras in the front and rear of the building. We look forward to all of the new and exciting opportuni- ties that will be made possible in the future home of our library. More details to come soon! On behalf of the Peninsula Public Library’s board, administration and staff, I would like to wish you and your family happy and healthy holidays this April and please remember to come out and vote on May 15 to support our Library. We always welcome your thoughts and suggestions and are committed to remaining a strong and vital asset to the community.
