PRESIDENTS NOTES Hello, here we are with March nearly over and soon it will be Easter. We are looking forward to seeing as many members as possible at our 2018 Slimmer of the Year The committee will work hard to make it a great day for all. Lunch is still only $30. It is impossible for Federation to refund any monies because once we get numbers the caterers are paid -so if due to circumstances you find a member has paid and cannot attend then it is up to the member or their club to get a replacement. The weather has been very hot and sticky so I bet we are looking forward to cooler times. It is not good for walking when it is so hot. I hope the weight losses in your club are going well for 2018. Remember small goals 300/500 grams weekly, if you are having trouble then a food diary each day works wonders. Also the 5/2 plan works! Our club has been going for 11 years and 2017 was the only year we did not have ANY graduates BUT started 2018 with 4 –it is very rewarding when we see our members reach their goal weight. Details will be in every newsletter until October for our 50th birthday and we would like to see as many members help us celebrate as possible. This is such a milestone for federation, especially as there are so many weight loss programmes around. So please make sure you all celebrate with us. See you at the Slimmer of the Year. Happy Easter Aileen
CANNINGTON WEIGHT WATCHERS We at Cannington have had a bad start to the year after returning from Christmas break with a very big gain with weight for the club. But we are turning it around with some great losses. We are currently at a total of 35.7kilos loss for the club. (After subtracting the gains from the losses) We have just celebrated a party with our newest graduate: Maria Terandetti Maria has lost a total of 11 kilos on her weight loss journey. Maria has been eating better meals & exercising in the pool regularly. Maria is very encouraging to our fellow members and we wish her well on her journey. Congratulations Maria from David & the Cannington club. This brings our club to a total of 10 current graduates. We are very proud of them all. Cheryl Capelli, Margaret Mitchell, Stella Kessey, Totti Sandy, Shirley Cirello, Carol Jackson ,Irene Lyon, Jenny Kleuznik, Ce Oxley, & Maria Terandetti They all set wonderful examples for us to follow well done to you all . We also have a KIW: Helena Gladwell. This lady is amazing. She always makes us smile & have a laugh. Thank you &congratulations Helena on reaching your goal weight. We are very proud of your efforts every week. Our Achiever of the month for February was won by: Gwen Taylor 2.9kilos. Well done Gwen that’s awesome. We also had 3 other great losses in February: Linda Munro lost 2.7kgs Debbie Gerstorfer lost 2.1kilos Kathy Bartlet lost 2kilos What a fantastic effort from these amazing ladies. Well done. Our Apple tree winner after 8 weeks: was Linda Munro. David has asked all the members to set realistic goals for themselves month by month.
REASONS WHY WE FAIL! 1. Take on too much (set to higher goals) 2. Being Unrealistic 3. Not allowing enough time to reach goals 4. Not persevering DON’T GIVE UP! If you fail! Keep trying! It’s No Big Deal… We also had an inspirational talk from our own member Linda Munro. Linda spoke of her weight loss journey with her many trials & tribulations. Linda won the slimmer of the year at one time but unfortunately life is full of obstacles that change our lives and make our journey one with things that are not in our control and affect our wellbeing & our health. Linda explained that she continues to make healthy life style changes, she keeps her daily food diary, goes to the gym at 5:30am regularly and works out 20 mins treadmill and does weights. Linda’s main message to us was that we should always pick ourselves up & NEVER GIVE UP! Thank you Linda, for being a very important member in our family (club). We at Cannington wish you all well and look forward to seeing you at the SOY get together, Good luck to all the wonderful entrants. Jenny Chadwick
SWAN BASSENDEAN COMMUNITY WEIGHT LOSS GROUP Congratulations to June who is our Slimmer of the Year. June has been a member of Weight Watchers for over 46 years and this is the first time she has been Slimmer of the Year. For her effort June was awarded a Trophy, $50 and her name put on the SBCWLG perpetual trophy. These trophies has gone everywhere with June (including to her doctor’s appointment, who was very pleased with her progress). As a group we have been very busy. Our topics for discussions so far this year have been: 1. Getting started again 2. Eating for good health 3. Breaking unhelpful habits 4. Sharing your favourite healthy snack recipes. We have also had a local Yoga teacher Rachel Vai from www.vaiyoga.com.au come and teach us CHAIR YOGA which was a fun session. As a group we emptied the marble jar (300 marbles representing a 30 kilo lost for the group) a couple of weeks ago so we celebrated by holding our next meeting at the DOME café in Bassendean with the group shouting everyone a free drink. Jo Vernon

SUNSHINE SLIMMERS GERALDTON Hello to everyone from sunny Geraldton. We have definitely had our fair share of extremely hot weather these past few weeks. Here we were all saying that it hasn’t been a hot summer at all, but this heat and terrible humidity has taken its toll on us. Unfortunately we also have terrible wind to contend with here as well, but don’t get me started on that subject. Luckily the past couple of days have been nicer, preparing us for the end of the week when the thermometer is rising again. We had a successful bring and buy going towards our cancer morning tea and raised $130.00. We have also started our $50.00 raffle as well. Our Slimmer of The Year was announced and Christine Southcott was our winner with a loss of 9.8 kilos and our runner up was Marlene Coombs with a loss of 8.1 kilos. Congratulations to these lovely ladies. I must say that as a “FAIRLY “ new member here, only 12 months, we have a wonderful group of ladies that we have some great laughs with and we share so many stories about family and friends. We also have a magnificent President in Marilyn Chester. She is a very caring person but also makes us laugh every week. Geraldton as a port has been very busy with a number of cruise ships arriving which is great for the economy. That’s it for today ladies. Until next time stay well. Regards Pat Underwood

MOORE RIVER WEIGHT WATCHERS It has been awhile since we have sent any of our news so I have doubled up this month:- We hosted another presentation at Sovereign Hill on the 14th February from Silver Chain. Again this was very well attended. Lots of question were asked and answered by Nina and Monique who do travel extensively to many towns in the Wheatbelt. Silver Chain has been in the Gingin area for a number of years and of course things have changed, some good some not so good. There are a couple of good changes in the pipeline, but of course it always takes a lot of time and effort. For the people who were not able to attend, Nina advised the first contact for information and assistance should be to phone 1300 650 803. Although we are only 1hr from Joondalup we do not have all the services available to us. So we are using Weight Watchers as a forum to invite various health oriented organizations. This is not just for WW’s members but for the all the communities here. One of the subjects Nina did touch on was the social aspect of people’s wellbeing. At Weight Watchers we do try to bring a social atmosphere into our meetings. It is not JUST about losing weight, we all know what we should or should not eat too much of. For the members that attend regularly it is, I believe, time spent with like-minded people, who do challenge themselves and receive encouragement from each other. MRWW’s celebrated their 23rd Birthday on the 28th February with a lovely breakfast at the Yanchep Café & Gourmet Deli, 4 Village Row. With our members and invited guests there were 20 people who had nothing but praise for the food and services. The tables looked so nice with small vases of flowers from one of our members.
We now have 2 more new members who I believed enjoyed the company as much as the food and did attend out next meeting. We did have two lovely pot plants as door prizes and at the close of the day all 20 people received a Gerbera plant in a small decorated pot. On the day, Dot Branch was again crowned Princess of the month for the most weight loss…one more month and she will be crowned Queen. Dot started MRWW’s 24yrs ago and at this breakfast she read the hand written first minutes. She had quite a long break but is now back and doing so well. Our next outing, when the weather gets a bit cooler, is to Benara Nursery. We had planned to go last week but as it was the hottest day this summer we decided to postpone. “Most of us, swimming against the tides of trouble the world knows nothing about, need only a bit of praise and encouragement – and we will make the goal”. Jae MRWW President
BYFORD DAYTIME WEIGHT WATCHERS The summer is still holding on, I think that March can be one of the most uncomfortable months of the year. Still it won’t be long and we will be complaining about the winter. Wendy has reached her Goal weight and is now a keeper in waiting. Gloria lost 24.9 kg to be our entrant in the Slimmer of the year. Lidia came 1st in the Grads Peg Board competition with Margie and Brenda equal 2nd. Queen Heather lost 2 kg to win our Queen of the Month with Princesses Gloria and Karen losing 1.9 kg for 2nd place in the main group. In the Grads, Queen Margie varied by 0.2 kg to win from Princesses Brenda, Lyn and Lidia who all varied by 0.3 to share 2nd place. Marg L won the Apple Tree in the Main group and most of the Grads shared their prize. Congratulations to all our winners. Earlier this month we had a very interesting talk by Caitlan Warren a dietitian from the Juniper Community about “Super Foods”.

BELMONT WEIGHT WATCHERS February is a short month so this will be a short update. I’ll start by congratulating Linda A. who is our Slimmer of the Year with an 11 kilo loss. Linda only joined last year and has done really well in such a short time. Also doing well are Ros T-B, Linda C, Annie and Shirley who all received daisies for their 4-week weight loss, and our Grad of the Month Jean H. Well done and keep up the good work! We celebrated the birthdays of Ros T-B, Bev and Sandra. Belmont members have long had a tradition of brining in unwanted books, magazines and clothing for other members to take if they want. Member Terry suggested that we formalise this and after discussion everyone agreed the club would have a “market day” once a month. People could help themselves to these goods for gold coin donations, with half the money going to club funds and half towards our contribution to the Cancer Foundation Biggest Morning Tea. Meanwhile those members who had craft items could sell them with those proceeds split between the club, the Cancer Foundation and the maker. Our first Market Day was a huge success! Some craft items sold out (we have some VERY talented members) and quite a few wardrobes and libraries were expanded for a few dollars. The club and Cancer Foundation received much-needed funds and the crafters were paid for their work. Many thanks to Terry for her idea which is both practical and fun. Regards Maggie
BUSSLETON WASPS Hello to everyone. Bit rushed this time around. Got too much to do and not enough time to fit it all in. Though to nothing dramatic to report from our little gang this month. Everyone's trying of course. Losses equal gains and I guess the fact that the "finger" of the scales is moving at all, shows determination. Heard a good one the other day---- from a friend whose aim was to stir --- she said, the heavier you are, the harder you are to kidnap! So stay safe and eat cake! It was delicious too, a double chocolate mud cake with marshmallows to decorate. It was my birthday, so that's my excuse. ! My trip to Perth for the celebration culminated in a car full of grandies from 6yrs to 15 yrs. SO noisy, and that was without the radio or CD on. One bright spark from the back seat said after I had uttered "silence is golden” in a weary way, answered back with “duct tape is silver Nandy.” Well that cracked me up but set the tone for the rest of the journey. The youngsters are quite descriptive in their own way and funny. Here's to a great month of good weights, though it will be hard with Easter in between. Happy Easter to everyone, enjoy your families and remember the scales when you reach for that hot cross bun! Regards to all, Valerie hon sec/ treasurer
