SpHb monitoring is not intended to replace laboratory blood warnings, and precautions. testing. Blood samples should be analysed by laboratory instruments prior to clinical decision making. 1 Ehrenfeld et al. J Blood Disorders Transf. 2014. 5:9. 2 Awada WN et al. J Clin Monit Comput. DOI 10.1007/s10877-015-9660-4. Study Protocol: In each group, if researchers noted SpHb trended downward below 10 g/dL, a red blood cell transfusion was started and continued until SpHb trended upward above 10 g/dL. The transfusion threshold of 10 g/dL was predetermined by the study protocol and may not be appropriate for all patients. Blood sampling was the same for the control and test group. Arterial blood was drawn from a 20 gauge radial artery cannula into 2 mL EDTA collection tubes, mixed and sent for analysis by a Coulter GEN-S Hematology Analyzer. 3 Kamal A, et al. Dear Colleague, On behalf of the NATA board of directors, it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 21st NATA Symposium on Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis that will be held as a 5-day virtual meeting on April 12-16, 2021. The Annual NATA Symposium attracts a wide international and multidisciplinary audience from more than 40 countries. In line with our mission statement, the scientific programme covers a wide range of topics related to anaemia, patient blood management (PBM), critical bleeding and thrombosis. We are no doubt frustrated not be able to meet face to face in Athens as originally planned. However, despite these challenging times, the virtual format gives an opportunity to reach a wider, more global audience. Registration fees have been significantly reduced. We hope this will allow many new participants to discover our unique multidisciplinary forum. The preliminary programme includes 11 plenary sessions, of which 9 will be repeated at a different time so that attendees can participate in live sessions whatever their time zone (note that the online programme can be displayed according to your time zone). We are also delighted to host sessions organized by the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM) and the Asia-Pacific Society for Patient Blood Management (ASPBM). This year, 78 abstracts have been accepted for presentation, of which 16 have been selected for oral communication. They represent an important contribution to the scientific programme. We encourage all delegates to visit the poster area and to attend the four Best Poster sessions. A very attractive, busier than ever industry-sponsored programme will complement the main scientific programme. It includes 6 satellite symposia, 2 workshops and 11 meet-the-expert sessions, many of which will be repeated. All sessions will be recorded and will be available on-demand for 6 months on the meeting platform. More than ever, the annual NATA symposium will provide a unique opportunity for stimulating and constructive exchanges across different specialities involved in PBM, haemostasis and thrombosis. We look forward to meeting you virtually at this outstanding event. Yours sincerely, Charles-Marc Samama Jens Meier NATA Chair Chair, NATA Scientific Committe 4

CME ACCREDITATION CME ACCREDITATION The 21st Annual NATA Symposium is accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide the following CME activity for medical specialists. The EACCME is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), www.uems.net. The 21st Annual NATA Symposium has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) for a maximum of 20 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/ she actually spent in the educational activity. Through an agreement between the European Union of Medical Specialists and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Information on the process to convert EACCME credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn. org/go/internationalcme. Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognized by the UEMS-EACCME for ECMEC credits are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. EACCME credits Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/ she actually spent in the educational activity. The EACCME credit system is based on 1 ECMEC per hour with a maximum of 3 ECMECs for half a day and 6 ECMECs for a full-day event. 9
