THE ELLESMERE ECHO Thursday 24th January 2019 5 Local Scene GRAND OPENING FOR LAKESIDE SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL HALL The long wait for the re-opening of the Lakeside Hall is finally upon us. Friday I February 2019 is the official grand opening of the new Hall and promises to be a well-attended event. People will have the opportunity to come along at 4.00pm to take part in an afternoon of ceremony, tradition, socialising, fun and the start of the new history of the community of Lakeside. Keep this date free in your diary and prepare to be wowed by what has been kept carefully under wraps within the interior of the building. This is a unique facility to Selwyn that is already attracting a great deal of interest for events catering for both large and small occasions. The dedicated Hall Committee would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the contributions made by so many groups and individuals towards the completion of the project. Main contributors include the Selwyn District Council for supporting and overseeing the whole project, Architecture Workshop the build- ing’s architects, Innate Landscape for landscape design, City Care Civil the main contractor, Johnston Civil landscape contractor, McMillan Drilling Group for geotech- nical and bore development works and Inovo Projects for project management. All have worked tirelessly and gone beyond expectations to complete what is a stun- ning facility. Also, a big thanks must go to the many volunteers and the Ellesmere Lions Club for all their hard work. They have continually turned up for working bees over the last 12 months and made the project happen. It has been more than eight years now since the beloved original Lakeside Sol- diers’ Memorial Hall has existed on the site and it is very pleasing to already have several bookings for the venue. The photographs offer a snippet of what lies behind the exterior. The building exemplifies the application of tradition and herit- age being incorporated into a modern, highly coordinated and functioning facility. The Grand Opening will be in two parts with the formal opening from 4.00pm till 6.30pm which is open to the public, followed by an evening meal and social start- ing at 7.00pm which is a ticketed event with strictly limited numbers. Tickets for the evening function are available from hall committee members or by contacting Alastair Barnett on carey.barnett@xtra.co.nz or 3243429.
