JANE AUSTEN REGENCY WEEK 2018 will be the 11th year of Jane Austen Regency Week which was inaugurated not only to celebrate the time Jane Austen spent in Alton and Chawton but also to raise, and indeed maintain, the profile of Alton in today’s world of Jane Austen tourism. Whilst the JA200 celebrations may be over, 2018 is still an important year as we commemorate the 200th anniversary of Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818. The week commences on Saturday 16th June with Regency Day in the town centre featuring stalls, street entertainment, petting animals, carriage rides, and people parading in Regency costume, followed by the Regency Ball in the evening. In 2017 there were 29 events including talks, singing, walks, dancing, house and garden tours, embroidery workshops, cream teas, film showings, cricket, supper and music. 2018 promises to offer yet another interesting and entertaining week of events. Next year’s dates are 16th-24th June and tickets will go on sale at the beginning of January.
