Alberta’s Agriculture Sector – A Global Exporter Our agriculture sector is vast and export-oriented. In 2020, Alberta exported $13 billion worth of agricultural and food products to international markets. Alberta is the largest cattle-producing province in Canada with 4.4 million head of cattle as of January 1, 2021. The province is also a significant hog producer in Canada with 1.6 million head on farms, as of January 1, 2021. Alberta enjoys a global reputation for safe, high-quality agriculture and agri-food products. The reputation stems from its thorough meat inspection and licensing programs, animal tracking systems, accurate and consistent grading systems for grains and oilseeds, and various food safety initiatives for producers, processors, and consumers.
