This guide contains general information on the City’s May–September Recreation Programs. Dates reflect a range of sessions offered. For detailed program information, please visit our online registration portal located at rec.berkeleyca.gov ECHO LAKE & TUOLUMNE CAMPS Counselor-in-Training Echo Lake: June 12–August 19 (Grades 10-12th) Tuolumne: June 17–August 12 (Grades 9-11th) Incoming Grades 9-12th. Teens are invited to participate in the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program during either family camp or youth camp. During the program, youth will learn leadership and other skills to prepare them to become a camp counselor. Escape to the Sierra Nevada with the City of Berkeley: we have summer sleepaway camps for youth, families, adults, and 50 and Better Camp seniors. You can swim in a lake, hike in the forest, enjoy meals Echo Lake: August 21–25 cooked for you, or let your children explore the wonders of the Tuolumne: August 25–28 high sierras with counselors. Ages 50+. Treat yourself to a restful stay in nature at either Echo Lake or Tuolumne Camp. Adults can enjoy hiking, fishing, Family Camps and other camper-led activities. Tuolumne: June 12–August 13 (9 weeks) Note: Fees cover up to 2 people per tent. Echo Lake: June 12–June 18; September 1–4 All Ages. Our creative counselors will teach participants the basics of beginning art techniques, acting, and dance. Campers will spend their days creating and playing games. Weekly trips to West Campus Pool. Join us for an introductory experience in all things Ages 5-12. The Therapeutic Recreation Program provides performing and circus arts. Participants will learn skills like inclusive services to youth with special needs as a part of the stage direction, scene acting, scarf juggling and stilt walking. James Kenney Discovery Camp. Frances Albrier Community Center June 5–August 4 M-F 9am–3pm James Kenney Community Center $150 res/ $180 non-res Intro to Dance Camp* Ages 5-12. Join us for an introduction into a world of dance. This Nature Exploration Camp high energy camp will get you moving all week long. Learn basic choreography and put together a dance by the end of the week. Ages 7-12. Engage in hands-on activities while learning about natural habitats and surrounding plants and animals. Camp August 7–11 M-F 1–4pm $124 res/$149 non-res Frances Albrier Community Center sessions will rotate between Codornices Park and Aquatic Park. Includes mini-trips to other unique habitats in nearby parks. *For a full day combine these two camps with Lunch Care. June 5–July 28 M-F 9am–3pm $210 res/$252 non-res Codornices Park and Aquatic Park Skate Camp Ages 8-14. Berkeley’s premier skateboard camp is open to all Sports Central Summer Camp levels of skaters. Learn the basics and learn new tricks to show off from experienced skateboarders. Ages 8-12. Intro to a variety of sports through spirited play. June 5–July 28 M-F 9am–12pm $195 res/$234 non-res Youth will experience up to 4 different sports per week, Berkeley Skate Park gain self-confidence, learn through skill-based games and scrimmages, technique development, and go on fun mini-trips.
