amp Hawthorn Hollow (CHH) is just 45 minutes from the Metro Detroit area, but definitely feels like a classic “Up North” experience. Equipped with hiking trails, sports fields, and more, CHH offers troops the freedom to take camp into their own hands! Lodges CHH has eight lodges — each with a full kitchen, tables and chairs, bathrooms with flush toilets, shower house in walking distance, outdoor fire pits and picnic tables. Each lodge sleeps 28-32 people on bunkbeds. Lodges are available for rent year round, rental fees are $250.00 per night with a two-night minimum. Villages Each village has five cabins that sleep four people on cots. Two villages share a screened-in, multipurpose building which can be divided into two rooms with a curtain. Each room is equipped with a refrigerator, charcoal grill, flush toilets, a sink and electrical outlets. Villages are available for rent from April 26-Oct. 1. Village rental fees are $120.00 per night with a two-night minimum. Tent Camping For the most rustic experience, bring your own tent to Camp Hawthorn Hollow. Tent camping fees are $6.00 per night, per tent with a two-night minimum. G O ! R E G I S T E R AT G S S E M . O R G / G O 9
Troop camping at Camp Playfair amp Playfair, located on the shores of the mighty Lake Huron, is the perfect setting for a troop camping experience. Troops can plan their own activities, cook their own meals and have the ultimate girl-led adventure. Newly renovated in 2019, the Nature Center and Nautical Exhibit will add more learning and fun to the experience. Both buildings enhance the educational experiences for girls whether they be girl-led, facilitated by troop leaders, or “added-on” and led by camp staff. The new spaces allow girls to earn badges with a host of resources and tools at their fingertips. 10 G O ! R E G I S T E R AT G S S E M . O R G / G O
Lodges Two Lodges at Camp Playfair are equipped with a full kitchen, comfortable common area, tables, chairs, bathrooms with flush toilets and showers, outdoor fire pits, picnic tables, and heat for the cooler nights. Ringler Lodge sleeps 25 people on bunkbeds and is available May through September. Rental fees are $200.00 per night with a two-night minimum. Trillium Ridge Lodge sleeps 12 on bunkbeds and is available May through September. Rental fees are $100.00 per night with a two- night minimum. Cabins Three A-Frame cabins offer electricity, refrigerator access nearby, a short walk to bathrooms with flush toilets and showers, and an outdoor fire pit for campfire cooking. Each A-Frame sleeps 12 on cots and are available from May through September. A-frame rental fees are $60.00 per night with a two-night minimum. Tents Tent camping is available from May- September. GSSEM’s new High Adventure Troops: Trailblazers and Mariners The Trailblazers program provides teen Girl Scouts an opportunity to engage deeply in high-adventure outdoor activities in a broad range of modalities, geographies, and climates. Trailblazers develop skills in: • Diverse hiking styles • Different types of camping • Orienteering methods • Conservation, service, and Take Action projects • Outdoor preparedness and safety • Survivorship • High-adventure sports Looking for high Adventure, but can’t commit to another troop? As Mariners, girls develop skills in: • Swimming • Safety and rescue • Canoeing and kayaking, • Sailing, paddle boarding, or boating • Weather and navigation Girls also take action on oceans, lakes, and rivers; explore careers related to water and the environ- ment surrounding water; and participate in associ- ated local, regional, national, and international travel opportunities. 14 G O !
