Message to Parents from the Principal This booklet contains information about Active Learning Week 2020. All the activities on offer are included in this booklet. As always, we aim to have an activity for everyone. Our Active Learning Week Co-ordinator for 2020 will be Mrs Rachel Pires. I am very grateful to all the staff and other volunteers who take on the responsibility for organising such an impressive programme of activities. It is a responsibility which everyone takes very seriously and issues of security and safety are an absolute priority for us. Active Learning Week for 2020 has been organised within two main areas: 1. All week activities - for those who would like to take on a weekly activity (both school and non-school based). 2. Daily activities (both school and non-school based) - a wide range of daily activities to take place throughout the week. Students are encouraged not to opt for the same activity two years running. A variety of experience is important. It is necessary for all students to take part in Active Learning Week. BOOKINGS TAKEN FROM 8:15AM ON TUESDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2020 - get your booking form and deposit in early to avoid disappointment. This does not guarantee a place on your first choice and, if a student is unsuccessful, their deposit is then allocated against their 2nd choice activity. Where activities are oversubscribed a draw may take place for those returning their booking forms before 9.10am on 4th FEBRUARY. However, students who have taken part in the activity in a previous year may not be included in the draw. It is important to stress, as we do elsewhere, that it is not possible to refund deposits once a place has been confirmed. Similarly, all further payments must meet the deadlines set for each activity. It is not possible to use Parent Pay to make the deposit payment as this is required with the booking form. All further payments for the confirmed activities can be paid using Parent Pay. I am sure that Active Learning Week 2020 will be a great success. Please read the following information carefully as it provides further details of how to make your choices, costs involved, payments and an outline of each activity. If you have any queries about Active Learning Week, or would like any further details on any of the activities advertised, please ask Mrs Pires. Jenn Burn Principal January 2020
This booklet contains a wide range of activities with an equally wide range of prices. Every effort has been made to include some activities which cost nothing at all or relatively little. We are aware that many parents will have to pay attention to the cost when choosing an activity. TO MAKE YOUR CHOICE YOU MUST:- All Year 7 and 8 students are given a copy of the Active Learning Week booklet. A copy is also available to view on the College Website and VLE. • Read all the information carefully and consider the choices available. Choose the activities carefully. It is very difficult for changes to be made and it may not be possible to change. In some cases, further costs may be incurred. • Remove the form from the back of the booklet. • Fill in your name, year, tutor, 1st and 2nd choices very clearly. • Make sure your parent/carer signs the form at the bottom. • Return the booking form with the required deposit (see activity description). Cheques should be made payable to Launceston College with your child’s name and tutor group written on the reverse. • BOOKINGS TAKEN FROM 8:15am on TUESDAY 4th FEBRUARY 2020- get your form in early to avoid disappointment. Musical Production During Active Learning Week rehearsals will be taking place for the College’s musical production of We Will Rock You. Those students wishing to take part in this production please see Mr Strike or Ms Mason and enter this as their choice on the form – please see booklet for production details. Please take note of the following:- a. Confirmation of place – the activity leader will approve the list of students prior to confirmation being sent out to parents via letter detailing further payments required. Reserve lists will be made. b. Misbehaviour - very rarely we have to send a student back from an activity for misbehaviour. If this does happen, the parents of the child will be expected to make arrangements to collect them as soon as possible. Please accept that this is a last resort and the decision of the teacher in charge will be final if this does occur. c. School day - for all activities the timings are as a normal College day. Transport to and from college will be as normal. d. Paying – A banking system will be open to enable payments to be made in instalments. The due date of each instalment will be detailed on the confirmation letter. Please note payments are non-refundable and payment dates must be strictly adhered to in order to retain your son/daughter’s place on the trip. Please note the initial deposit is non-refundable. We reserve the right to remove your child from this trip for poor behaviour, at which time you will be liable for any costs incurred by the College in relation to your child’s place on this trip . Final payment date will be 24th May 2020. Mrs Rachel Pires Active Learning Week Co-ordinator
