General examination day: Registration in Korppi • Registration for all general examination day exams is done in Korppi system • Registration deadline usually 7-10 days before the exam day – be on time, late registrations are not accepted! • Remember also to cancel your registration if you decide not to take the exam after all. General examination day: On the exam day • A roll call & personal envelopes distributed before the exam outside the examination room • You are not allowed to leave an examination until 30 minutes have passed since the beginning of the examination • If a student arrives late for an examination, the exam supervisors must allow him/her to take part (if nobody has yet left the examination room) JYU. General examination day: On the exam day • Leave your bag beside the wall of the examination room, take only the objects needed for writing and erasing with you. No mobile phones, handouts or dictionaries (unless otherwise mentioned)! • It is not allowed to open the envelopes until the exam supervisors give a permission to do so • No talking – at all – in the exam room! • Remember to take your ID/student card to the exam! (your identity will be checked when you return the exam) N.B. for the time being, digital student card not accepted as proof of identity • Do not cheat!!! You will get into trouble… JYU. Exams in general • It is possible to retake exams • However, after two no-shows or failed exams, the student must consult the teacher about the next opportunity to take the examination • For each general examination date there is a list of exams you can take + only a certain number of books are available. About the Grades • “Normal distribution” IS NOT used, i.e. all students can get a 5, if they do well in the course. • No University level assessment criteria. • Grades and credits do not have any connection, i.e. all students will receive the same number of credits (for the same amount of work), but can receive a different grade. • Students are not usually compared with each other on the basis of their grades. Where to Find the Results? • Results are published within two (three) weeks of completing an assignment (submission deadline) or exam. • Results will appear in Korppi under the courses & in the Transcript of Records • To get the results to your e-mail: In Korppi, under Studies Transcript of Records Check the box: “I want to have updates of my transcript of records by e-mail” results automatically sent to your email. About the Academic Atmosphere • Casual but respectful relationship with professors and other staff: students call their teachers by their (first) names, not by their titles. • The informal ”you = sinä”, is generally used instead of the formal address, “you = te”. • Even many professors dress casually • Feedback collected at the end of each course (through Korppi). • You can also ask for feedback about your performance. • Teachers & other staff often have weekly appointment hours, please respect them. • Easy to contact staff by e-mail, though some of the teachers may not prefer – please check. • Be precise in your e-mails: state the topic clearly in the subject field, mention the code/name of the course, use your name as it is written in Korppi. • Please allow enough time for the staff to answer your e-mails, do not expect an immediate answer.
