Speaker Biographies
Nancy Mendonca, is currently the NASA Deputy in ARMD’s Mission Integration Office (AMIO). The AMIO integrates ARMD’s AAM efforts across the four ARMD Programs and with the AAM community. She served 24 years in the Navy flying H-46 helicopters. Between the Navy and NASA, she worked at the Missile Defense Agency, on the Marine Corps MRAP Program and at NTIA working on the Federal Strategic Spectrum Plan. She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering and subsequently eared M.S. degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and National Security and Strategic Studies. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and has currently prioritized rescuing Great Danes and riding horses over flying helicopters. 10
Dr. Marcus Johnson is currently Subproject Manager for the High Density Vertiplex Subproject under the NASA Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Project. He has also served as a Deputy Lead for the AAM National Campaign and a Deputy Project Manager for the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) Project at the NASA Ames Research Center. He holds a doctorate in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida and his research interests focus on intelligent systems in aerospace applications and the integration of novel and new aircraft into the national airspace. 11
Mr. Robert Bassey is an electrical engineer with the FAA Airport Engineering Division. Robert oversees the development of several airport, heliport and vertiport standards, focusing on enhancing airport safety and capacity as well as in the research and design of varied innovative airfield systems. Prior to joining the Airport Engineering Division, Robert worked with the FAA Airport Technology Research and Development Team at the William J. Hughes Technical Center for several years. He studied engineering at Syracuse University and came to the FAA after graduation. Over the years, Robert has authored numerous technical reports and memos detailing the findings of these research efforts. Results of these research activities have led to the introduction of state-of-the-art improvements into the National Airspace System. 12
Mr. Jonathan Daniels (NUAIR). Mr. Daniels is the Chief of Strategy for NUAIR. Mr. Daniels retired from the Army as a field grade warrant officer in 2012, after 23 years of combined enlisted and officer experience as UAS pilot/sensor operator, aviator, project manager and operations analyst. He has spent the last nine years immersed in civil UAS, UTM and aviation infrastructure with multiple airport facilities in southern Nevada. He is the Program Lead for the NYUASTS High-Density Vertiport Automation Study for NASA. An internationally recognized industry expert, he is a member-at-large on the FAA’s UAS Safety Team, the ANSI Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative Steering Committee and the ASTM International/National Fire Protection Association Joint Working Group and is an ASTM Fellow. He participated as a voting member on the Remote ID and Tracking ARC and the UAS in Controlled Airspace ARC. Mr. Daniels is the current ASTM Subcommittee Chair for 38.03, Personnel Training, Qualification and Certification. Mr. Daniels is the Technical Group Lead for nine developmental and nine published standards, including WK59317, “Vertiport Design” and WK WK75981, “Vertiport Automation Supplemental Data Services Provider Performance”.
