4 t h A L L A F R IC A HORT I C U LT U R A L C ON G R E S S Dates: 22-25 November, 2020 Venue : King Fahd Palace, Dakar, Senegal Theme: TRANSFORMATIVE INNOVATIONS IN HORTICULTURE The Executive Committee of the 4th AAHC, the Horticulture Cluster and the ISHS, invite you to the 4th meeting and scientific conferences of the All African Horticultural Congress (AAHC), to be held at the King Fahd Palace in Dakar, Senegal. The AAHC to be held for the first time in french speaking West Africa country, is a major event for the African and global scientific community in this sector. This 2020 edition will be a congress for exchanging knowledge and information, and for promoting innovations on the major challenges of horticulture in Africa. Beyond the new interest generated by agro-ecological approaches, this congress will strengthen the positioning of the West African countries, and of Senegal in particular, in the fields of research and scientific innovation in horticulture, the modernization of production and processing techniques for horticultural products, and the professionalization of a competitive sector that has all the assets to support the sustainable intensification of African agriculture. Languages The conference language will be English. Simultaneously English-French translation will be available during the plenary sessions. Abstract submission Abstracts must be submitted online at the ISHS website https://www.actahort.org/members/symposiar?nr=512 by March 31, 2020 (deadline for submission). A response will be provided by the Scientific Committee within one month following submission. The final full papers for publication in the Acta Horticulturae Proceedings of the IV All Africa Horticultural Congress must be submitted by 31 August 2020. Selection and notification process Abstracts shall not exceed 300 words. The abstract, in a single paragraph, should contain information on the objectives of the study, materials and methods, results, conclusion, and keywords (max 5). 2
4 t h A L L A F R IC A HORT I C U LT U R A L C ON G R E S S Oral Presentations The presentation of scientific papers will be limited to 15 minutes each, including 3 minutes of discussion for any clarification. All authors are invited to prepare their oral presentation using the PowerPoint format available on the conference website: http://www.aahc2020.org/downloads/. Posters Presentation on posters will be made on a surface of 120 cm x 90 cm. All text shall be readable at a distance of 2 m. Posters will be displayed as soon as their authors are registered at the congress venue (Sunday evening or Monday morning), and will remain so throughout the Congress. During the special poster session, one author at least shall be available to discuss the poster with participants. Participants are encouraged to convert their respective currencies in Euros or US dollars in order to facilitate exchange on the spot. Participants are strongly advised to take out comprehensive medical and travel insurance to cover the possibility of unpredictable events. Socio-cultural activities The Gala Dinner will be held on Wednesday, 25 November, 2020. Professional excursions will be organised in the afternoon of Tuesday, 24 November, 2020 (bus trip, lunch box included). For the accompanying persons, full- or half-day sightseeing trips can be offered (Gorée Island, Pink Lake, handicraft market, Keur Moussa monastery, etc.), please contact the congress local organizer (CLO) at your earliest convenience. Immigration and Visa requirements Participants are invited to contact the Embassy of Senegal or the consular offices of their respective countries for visa formalities. For participants from countries without an embassy in Senegal, please contact the CLO to facilitate the visa process. Airport reception Foreign participants will arrive to Dakar at the Blaise Diagne International Airport. Participants will be welcomed and transported from the airport to their respective hotels.
