No Challenge To o G r e at ! The South32 Rottnest Channel Swim is, undoubtedly, an epic conquest. Swimming 19.7km through open water, battling currents, winds and swell, as well as pushing your body to the limit – you have to be pretty courageous to tick Rotto Swim off the bucket list. For Sam Kimberley and Mitch Kent, getting to combine their love for the outdoors, adventure and their competitive drive made Rotto Swim the perfect challenge for them. However, there’s another reason why this Rotto Swim might be a bit more challenging for Sam and Mitch; Sam is part of the dwarfism community. Sam has promised both he and Mitch will give everything they can on the day of the swim but knows their biggest challenge will be speed. “Mitch and I both aren’t the fastest swimmers and we certainly ain’t going to break records, however, will do everything we can to ensure we make it over”. By taking up the challenge of completing the South32 Rottnest Channel Swim in 2023, Sam’s hope is to “bring awareness to the community that people with dwarfism are capable of achieving many great things and shouldn’t be limited to what they can and can’t do due to their physical appearance”. Meeting in high school back in 2010, Mitch and Sam have been thick as thieves ever since. When they’re not training together on a Saturday arvo, you might catch them travelling around the state in their 4WDs. Their team name, RAC Swags, actually came out of one of their big camping adventures but you’ll have to ask them for the story behind it (it’s a bit of an inside joke). Alongside their family, friends and support crew waiting for them at the finish line, make sure to cheer on and celebrate with Sam and Mitch as they conquer the Rottnest Channel! 2023 South32 Rottnest Channel Swim From the pool to the podium 17 Proud sponsor of the South32 Rottnest Channel Swim
