Traditionally known as Bawating (“the place of the rapids”), Sault Ste. Marie is a
place of cultural significance. Located in the Heart of Turtle Island, Indigenous
people have occupied this region since time immemorial.

We acknowledge with respect, that we are in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory,
that the land on which we are gathered is the traditional territory of the
Anishinaabe and known as Bawating. Bawating is the home of Garden River First
Nation, Batchewana First Nation, the Historic Sault Ste. Marie Métis Council.

                                          along the way is the impressive Crystal Falls. You
                                          can park at Kinsmen Park and take a two-minute
                                          walk to the base, followed by a short climb up
                                          wooden steps to the top.

BUSHPLANE MUSEUM As you continue along
the Hub Trail you’ll come to one of the best
attractions in the city for families; the iconic
Bushplane Museum. Kids will charge around
exploring and interacting with all the exhibits,
and parents will enjoy taking in some of the
most iconic planes in Canadian history. Rain or
shine, this is definitely worth a visit and check
out Entomica too, an Insectarium where you can
hold some very interesting creatures!                    Bellevue Park

                                                       BELLEVUE PARK Next, continue east along the
                                                       Hub Trail to Bellevue Park to enjoy a picnic and a
                                                       play. With seven separate playground structures,
                                                       Bellevue Park is a kid’s dream come true. Along with
                                                       its impressive playgrounds, the park also includes
                                                       a splash pad, beautiful paths along the waterfront,
                                                       and picnic areas.

                                     Musuem            CRYSTAL FALLS Looking for more? Take a ten
                                                       minute drive to Crystal Falls, located in Kinsmen
                                                       Park. The falls are a short walk from the parking lot
                                                       and can be accessed by walking along a wooden
                                                       boardwalk. The amazing views keep coming as you
                                                       walk up a series of steps to viewing platforms and
                                                       experience the many layers of this waterfall.

                                                       After such a great day of family fun and activities,

                                                           After 12km of mixed single and double track, we
                                                        get to Norm’s Cabin. Situated on Bone Lake, the
                                                        two-story cabin is a perfect place to spend the
                                                        night. One of the Red Pine guides is a brewmaster
                                                        at the Soo’s OutSpoken Brewery and the other
                                                        guide is the brewery owner. So we’ve soon
                                                        cracked a couple of cold Deadfall lagered ales and
                                                        are cheering the day’s accomplishments.

                                                           The guys get to making dinner. It’s totally
                                                        local: freshly caught “specks” (speckled trout),
                                                        backyard-grown zucchini, locally raised ribs. The
                                                        wood fire keeps us warm all night and the silence
                                                        is absolute; we don’t see another person for about
                                                        16 hours.

   For those new to the area and looking for an
expert to guide them, you can seek out Red Pine
Tours. When the guys pick me up for an overnight
mountain bike trip, I know we’ll get along; they’re
wearing flannel shirts and jean shorts. And that’s
their riding gear. While they tend to do ridiculously
lengthy, self-punishing tours, they’re taking it easy
on me. We head to Stokely Creek for the pièce de
résistance of their packages: their bike glamping
tour. We ride out to Norm’s Cabin where we’ll spend
the night. And all our gear is delivered to the cabin
so we don’t need to carry any of it.

   Stokely’s trail system began as a cross-country
ski destination, but singletrack has slowly taken
hold between the double track to create an endless
network of trails. There are lots of painful, lung-
punishing climbs but also a bunch of seriously fun

                          kilometres of groomed trail reaching far-flung
                          corners of the province, planning the perfect
                          snowmobiling experience can be a time-consuming

                          new Soo Highlands Loop.

                              A snowmobiler’s approach to a day on the
                          trails is often to get the most out of that day,
