A Superhero As a celebrity ambassador of on and off Community Health of South Florida Inc. the court: (CHI), retired basketball player GLEN Glen Rice has made it his mission to spread awareness RICE about the impact CHI is making in our community. Rice is a three-time NBA All-Star and made 1,559 three-point field goals during his 15-year career. Rice won both an NCAA championship and NBA championship during his collegiate and professional career while playing for the Miami Heat (1989-1995), Charlotte Hornets (1995-1998), LA Lakers (1998-2000), New York Nicks (2000), Houston Rockets (2000-2003), and LA Clippers (2003-2004). In recent years, Rice has proven himself as a business owner and promoter through his company G-Force Fights, based in Miami, Florida.
Community Health of South Florida, Inc., embarked on a $5.5 million capital campaign to build the first comprehensive Children’s Crisis Center in southern Miami-Dade County. We are only $523,000 away from meeting this goal and as we celebrate the year of CHI Superheroes, we recognize that donations from heroes like you are the superpower that will lead us to the completion of this center. The 11,400-square foot, state-of-the-art Children’s Crisis Center will ensure a safe haven for nearly 1,000 children annually from Miami-Dade and Monroe counties who experience a mental health crisis. With your generous GLEN RICE support, we can open our doors and provide 24-hour care to children up to 17 years of age, regardless of financial status. They will be cared for by a team of dedicated, Celebrity Golf board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists and other experts. These children will finally have the help they need with Tournament diagnostic evaluation and treatment, crisis intervention, 24/7 on-call support, and much more to ensure their recovery. Since 1971, CHI has been a beacon of hope for people of all ages by Your support is providing comprehensive primary and behavioral healthcare. We are committed to improving specialized care for children in South building the Children’s Florida who are experiencing severe mental health illnesses. CHI Crisis Center Superheroes like you can help bring an end to the lack of access to intensive behavioral health treatment and the shortage of overnight short-term residential children’s crisis units that have left far too many kids in dire situations, without the necessary psychiatric care, they desperately need and deserve.
At the tender age of seven, Jane told her mom that she wanted to commit suicide. Family issues, a lupus diagnosis, and being bullied at school had driven her into a deep depression. “It feels like you’re in a dark hole. Like, you can’t move, you can’t see, you can’t think or feel anything,” recalls Jane. Shocked and overwhelmed, her mom, Antoinette, wondered: “How did we get here? How do I fix it?” “It was really hurtful and sad,” says Antoinette, who was working two jobs at the time. Immediately, Antoinette quit her second job to spend more time with her daughter.
